This position is located in the Division of Depositor and Consumer Protection, Consumer and Community Affairs Branch, Outreach and Program Development Section of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. The position provides support for efforts to promote financial inclusion, particularly the Money Smart financial education program. Additional selections may be made from this vacancy announcement to fill identical vacancies that occur subsequent to this announcement.

Duties

Engage in proactive communication with community- based organizations, academia, government officials, financial institutions, and regulatory agencies regarding Community Reinvestment Act, fair lending, economic inclusion, and community development to identify and address ways to support the needs of low- and moderate-income communities and individuals. Lead production and technical aspects of in-person and/or virtual events, including but not limited to stakeholder management, coordination with technical and support teams, and set-up and testing. Conduct post-event debriefs, analyses and reports regarding participation, response and other information on the effectiveness of the events and activities. Support the examination process by providing guidance and technical assistance to examiners regarding community development and economic inclusion. Shares information to assist examiners in better understanding community credit needs. Prepare papers, briefings, brochures and other material as required for presentation. Represent the FDIC as speaker or participant as designated, at events designed to educate financial institutions, community representatives and others with respect to community development and economic inclusion.

Qualifications

Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private or public sector. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious/spiritual; community; student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Additional qualifications information can be found here. CG-09: Applicants must have completed at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS/CG-07 grade level or above in the Federal service.  Specialized experience is defined as experience assisting in supporting programs and activities relating to financial education, community development, Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) consumer regulations and/or fair lending and consumer protection laws and regulations. OR you may substitute education as follows: You must have earned a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree or master's or equivalent graduate degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. Have a combination of successfully completed graduate level education and specialized experience may be used to meet total experience requirements. Only graduate level education in excess of the amount required for the next lower grade level may be combined with experience. CG-11: Applicants must have completed at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS/CG-09 grade level or above in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as experience developing or implementing financial education or other consumer protection programs relating to community development, Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) consumer regulations and/or fair lending and consumer protection laws and regulations. OR you may substitute education as follows: You must have earned a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in economics or a related field or LL.M., if related.  Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work. Have a combination of education and experience that meets the requirements for the CG-11. You must have graduate level education as described above, beyond the 2nd full year of graduate level education and specialized experience as described above that together meet the qualification requirements for this position.  CG-12: Applicants must have completed at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS/CG-11 grade level or above in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as experience leading the development and implementation of financial education or other consumer protection programs relating to community development, Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) consumer regulations, and/or fair lending and consumer protection laws and regulations with community-based organizations, academia, government officials, and/or financial institutions.
