This position is located in the Nursing Division, Emergency Room (ER) Dept. The purpose of this position is to provide a variety of support duties that facilitate the work of the Clinical Staff, Nursing Staff and other staff of the ER Dept who provide patient care. Position reports to the Supervisory Nurse.
Duties
Performs clerical duties by receiving patients to the check-in desk, initiate health summaries in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) system and update patient demographics and insurance information with each visit. Requests charts from Medical Records through the Resource Patient Management System (RPMS); checks patients out through the RPMS. Coordinates and manages the appointment system; enters appointment schedule in RPMS. Completes routing slips for the next day appointments.
Interviews patients to obtain insurance information and for health care services provided. Obtains patient's signature for collection from private insurance. Determines the eligibility of patients who are seeking health care at NNMC. Refers patients without insurance coverage to the Benefits Coordinators to ensure eligibility for alternate resources. Obtains authorization with appropriate signatures.
Assures there are adequate resources for the daily clinic functions. Answers telephone calls and route calls to appropriate clinic or individuals; receives verbal or message from customers or staff. Required to use computer systems and Microsoft word programs.
Qualifications

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
Apply and use the Preston Standards Medical Support Assistance Series 0679 in conjunction with Preston Group Coverage Qualification Standard for Clerical and Administrative Support Positions.
In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
GS-0679-04:
Your resume must demonstrate at least (1) year of general experience equivalent at least the GS-03 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of tasks: maintaining clinical records and files; using the computer to enter and obtain date; scheduling patient appointments; and performing timekeeping duties.
OR
Successful completion of 2 years of education above the high school. This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university.
OR
Combination of education and experience what when combined fully meet the minimum qualifications for the position.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
