This position is located at Shiprock Service Unit, Northern Navajo Medical Center, Division of Community Health Services, Health Education Cener for Wellness Branch, Shiprock, NM. The purpose of this position is to provide support work to medical staff. the incumbent may be assigned for varying periods of time into one or more types of responsibilities within medical support assistance work where the individual's skills are required. Incumbent reports to Supervisory Nurse.
Duties
Makes appointments using automated system and assists with processing referrals, case management, filing, record keeping, and other patient care support functions.
Prepares appointment letters and other correspondence to patients and care providers. Provides patients with required paperwork for treatment.
Obtains all medical records, x-rays, and laboratory results prior to patient's arrival. Receives and processes correspondence related to patient care.
Assists in the transfer of patients. Reviews and selects medical information for a variety of purposes.
Coordinates care when the patient needs more than one service. Assists in documentation of patient visits within the electronic medical record when necessary.
Provides receptionist duties in order to receive patients. Answers the phone, takes messages, receives patients and directs patients to the proper location for needed services.
Makes decisions independently on the nature of and follow up needed for a variety of routine customer inquiries via telephone, email, and direct in-person communication.
Provides administrative support to the unit and assists the unit with implementation of IHS initiatives, audits and accreditation surveys.
Qualifications
To qualify for this position, your resume must state sufficient experience and/or education, to perform the duties of the specific position for which you are applying.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
One (1) year of Specialized Experience equivalent to at least the GS-04 grade level. OR 4 years of education above high school.
OR A combination of both education and experience.
General Experience--Progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled.
Specialized Experience--Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level. Applicants who have the 1 year of appropriate specialized experience, as indicated in the table, are not required by this standard to have general experience, education above the high school level, or any additional specialized experience to meet the minimum qualification requirements.
In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Providing administrative, clerical and technical support for the care of patients presented in the work unit. Make appointments using automated system and assists with processing referrals, case management, files, record keeping, and other patient care support functions. Answers phones, takes messages, receives patients and directs patients to the proper location for needed services. Provides administrative support to the unit and assists the unit with implementations of Indian Health Service initiatives, audits and accreditation surveys. Communicates in a culturally sensitive manner.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
