This position is located at Shiprock Service Unit, Northern Navajo Medical Center (NNMC), Division of Nursing Services, Shiprock, NM.
This position serves as work leader for Medical Support Assistants (MSAs) ensuring work assignments are accomplished within the Outpatient Department.
Incumbent performs same duties at same level as other MSAs. This promotes complete and accurate patient data for the hospital and/or clinic.
Incumbent reports to the Supervisory Nurse, Outpatient Clinic
Duties
Distributes, balances and monitors the workload among employees. Coordinates MSA schedule to ensure coverage of all patient access points.
Reviews the work of the MSA's, assuring accuracy, completeness and validity of work performed, adequacy and validity of records and files maintained and compliance with regulations and procedures.
Provides on the job training to team members and new employees.
Maintains knowledge and understanding of medical records process and procedures for providing direction and answers to questions.
Interviews patients to obtain information to initiate a new health record, verify third party insurance and verify via electronic portals.
Identifies and implements corrective action to resolve discrepancies to process claims/payments.
Assists patients in completing new or updated forms and obtain required signatures for alternate resources and PRC services.
Qualifications

You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.

In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level (GS-05) in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks:
1) interviewing patients to obtain demographic information, collecting and extracting data for reports.
2) obtain and verify third party insurance information and determine and resolve discrepancies/denials for unpaid medical claims
3) assigning tasks to employees, providing instruction and assistance in tasks/job techniques to accomplish projects.
4)Provide procedural instructions to employee regarding patient registration processes.
5)Advise employees on complex purchased/referred care (PRC) issues
6) Plan, develop, implement, evaluate and supervise a department to meet the goals and objectives of the organization.
7) Proficient in working with Microsoft Office Suites and electronic health records to carry out clerical functions of the clinic.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
