This position is located at Shiprock Service Unit, Northern Navajo Medical Center (NNMC) Division of Nursing Services, Med-Surg Shiprock, NM. The purpose of this position is to provide a variety of clerical duties associated with the care and treatment of patients. The incumbent reports to the Supervisory Nurse, Med Surg Dept..
Duties
Performs receptionist duties, record keeping, maintaining unit log; patient census; and other related clerical duties; receives patients to the unit; reviews nurses' admission notes for patient allergies, check charts and files appropriate records; prepares authorization forms for surgery and other procedures, interprets process as required; utilizes computer systems such as Electronic Health Record (EHR) and Resources Patient Management Systems (RPMS).
Orders supplies by established methods and procedures, maintains proper supply levels; types a variety of forms, monthly reports, minutes from meetings for nursing personnel.
Participates in the Continuous Quality Improvement program; assist the Nursing staff in orientation of new personnel.
Operates personal computer, will be required to use common type software such as word processing, electronic mail, database management, graphics, and spreadsheet software; maintains filing system for the unit.

In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
GS-04: Candidates must have had 52 weeks of general experience to qualify for the GS-04 grade level. General Experience is determined to be: Progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled.
Specialized Experience: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities (KSA's) to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level.
At the GS-04 level, specialized experience is not required.
Education: Successfully completed education above the high school level in any field for which high school graduation or the equivalent is the normal prerequisite is creditable at grades GS-3 through GS-5 for all positions except Reporting Stenographer, GS-5.This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school.
NOTE: Equivalent combinations of education and experience are qualifying for all grade levels and positions for which both education and experience are acceptable.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidat79es must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
