The Watervliet Arsenal is an Army-owned and-operated manufacturing center located in New York. It is the oldest, continuously active arsenal in the United States having begun operations in 1813. Today it is relied upon by U.S. and foreign militaries to produce the most advanced, high-powered weaponry for cannon, howitzer, and mortar systems. The Arsenal is the only location in the DoD that has a weapons research facility (Benet Laboratories) collocated with a manufacturing facility (Arsenal).
Duties
Originates and maintains CMM programs using PC-DMIS software Ver. 4.2 or above to create CMM programs, offline or online, on complex machined parts from various materials such as stainless steel, aluminum, alloy steels, rubber, plastic etc.
Integrates and balances several projects which operate simultaneously and involve complete CMM programming for any type of industrial inspection process.
Uses knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance (GD and T) to interpret blueprints, CAD wireframe, and solid models to review configuration management of component drawings to validate inspection ability, create setups, and fixture design.
Performs mathematical calculations by various means of applying trigonometry, geometry and algebra to determine angles, coordinates of critical dimensions, curves clearances, dimensional fits, etc.
Provides inspection technical support to production and engineering problems. Reports deficiencies in drawings, gages, and coordinate measuring machine programs including possible corrective actions.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position has a data analytics requirement. The incumbent must meet all requirements for data analytics level 1 certification within 12 months of being placed on the position.
- Incumbent will be required to complete PC-DMIS Level I training within 6 months of hire.
- Incumbent will be required to complete PC-DMIS Level II training within 18 months of hire.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: (1) Practical knowledge of performing dimensional inspections using gaging instruments; and (2) Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance (GD&T) principles to read and interpret blueprints and drawings. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level in the federal service (GS-09).
