About the Position: Fort Drum, the home of the 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), is located in Northern New York, a historically unique and geographically beautiful area, offering bountiful outdoor recreational opportunities from hunting and fishing to winter sports of all types. Fort Drum is approximately 30 miles from Canada, with the Great Lakes to the west, the Adirondack Mountains to the east, and the St. Lawrence River and Thousand Islands in between.
Duties
Perform Quality Control evaluation of activities and operations.
Utilize various plans, schedules, guides and knowledge of service, procedures, and materials in the inspection of on-going performance and completed work to ensure all work is performed in accordance with customers requirements.
Establish deadlines and priorities on the basis of general work schedules, methods and policies established by higher-levels of supervision.
Technical and administrative Supervisor over the Roads and Grounds Maintenance Section, exercising full supervisory responsibility over work operations.
Operate heavy engineering equipment to perform tasks such as mowing, digging, grading dirt and earth and maintaining ditches, road shoulders, and beds.
Counsel employees on problems and adjusts informal complaints through discussions with employees and union representatives.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This is a Testing Designated Position. Incumbent must submit to, and favorably pass, pre-employment and random drug testing for the duration of employment.
- Incumbent must successfully complete both initial and periodic Physical/Medical examinations.
- Obtain and maintain a New York State Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with air brakes within 6 months of hire.
- Obtain and maintain a valid Government Drivers License for the duration of employment.
- Required to wear protective equipment.
- Weather essential personnel status is required during inclement weather.
- This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations.
- A one year Supervisor probation to assess your ability to perform supervisory duties is required unless previously completed.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 45?lbs. in the regular performance of duties.

However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Engineering Equipment Operator Supervisor without more than normal supervision. I have the ability to perform common Engineering Equipment Operator Supervisor tasks including: supervising the repair and maintenance of heavy mobile equipment used for road maintenance and operating large trucks such as dump trucks, snowplows, water trucks and chemical trucks. I am skilled in operating gasoline or diesel powered heavy equipment with wheeled or crawler type traction, such as motor graders, tractors with bulldozers or angle dozer blades, front-end loaders/backhoes, large industrial tractors with pan or scraper attachments, vibratory rollers and sweeper brooms, and large trucks such as dump trucks, snowplows, water trucks and chemical trucks. I work on my own initiative under general supervision subject to occasional inspection. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
To meet the basic eligibility, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element indicated above and must have an average of two points on all the job elements listed below. Your application will be further evaluated to determine if you meet the best qualified cut-off for referral to the selecting official.
Selective Placement Factor: This position requires the incumbent to possess a New York State (NYS) Class B Commercial Driver's License. (NOTE: You must upload a copy of your NYS Class B CDL to your application or you will be rated ineligible.)

Physical Effort: Lifts, carries, connects and disconnects heavy attachments to properly accomplish work. Exerts vigorous physical effort to constantly reach, bend, turn and move hands, arms, legs and feet. The constant vibration of equipment and the jerking and jolting which results from operating over rough surfaces causes considerable physical strain.
Working Conditions: Work is performed in all weather conditions. The incumbent is exposed to injury due to the possibility of equipment tipping or overturning. Incumbent is subject to noise, vibration, dust, dirt and exhaust fumes.
