Duties

If selected for this position, you will join a well-respected team that is responsible for providing legal technical support to the Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs) in preparing for cases in the Early Case Assessment Section of the Superior Court Division at the United States Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia. Typical duties include: Works in conjunction with law enforcement personnel and types affidavits for all law enforcement agencies. Assists witnesses, law enforcement officers, court employees, attorneys. Reviews case jacket to ensure all official papers and documents are contained in the jacket in the proper order for arraignment and further action. Services as Legal Assistant in arraignment court preforming administrative, technical and legal research. Conducts various administrative operations to include procuring supplies and documents ensuring sufficient supplies and documents are on hand. Enters, cross-references, verifies and checks data in multiple programs to ensure accuracy and timeliness. Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.

Requirements

  • You must be a U.S. Citizen or National
  • Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation
  • You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable
  • If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period.
  • You must meet all qualification requirements upon the closing date of this announcement.

Qualifications

To be eligible at the GS-7 level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-6 level. Specialized experience is defined as experience providing legal technical support to attorneys by preparing cases; communicating daily with Assistant United States Attorneys (AUSAs), law enforcement, court employees, attorneys and the public to obtain and provide information concerning cases; providing legal support services for and during arraignment by transporting case jackets, answering questions, and ensuring procedures are in accordance with law and codes; tracking, reviewing and monitoring case jackets and legal documents to ensure appropriate documentation is accurate and in the proper order for arraignment; and using software applications and legal and non-legal databases to produce legal related reports and documents and ensure intake and papering are completed in a timely manner. Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.
