You will serve as a NUCLEAR ENGINEER in the NUCLEAR ENGINEERING AND PLANNING DEPARTMENT of PEARL HARBOR NSY AND IMF.
Duties
You will be responsible for the planning, researching, developing, executing of process improvement projects in support of the Nuclear Engineering and Department and naval nuclear work.
You will be expected to aggressively seek projects by observing deck plate work, analyzing quality indicators and trends, and/or discussing with personnel from other departments and projects.
You will supply a highly specialized technical input to the particular area of expertise, based on experience and knowledge of reactor plant systems, operations, repair, modifications and alignment.
You will be required to develop new procedures/instructions based on emergent needs or to support new requirements and/or goals.
You will serve on various committees associated with the process improvement project.
You will exercise independent judgement in many areas where the guidelines or procedures are vague or not directly related to the Shipyard environment.
You will prepare, implement, and assess corrective actions to problems identified by Shipyard or Naval Sea Systems Command (NAVSEA) evaluations.

- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.

- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- Work may be performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You may be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector as a professional engineer performing nuclear reactor plant systems maintenance to include developing procedures/instructions based on emergent needs or to support new requirements and/or goals; preparing, implementing, and assessing corrective actions to identified problems and incorporating changes of technical information and requirements into local instructions.

Education
Applicants must meet the following basic education requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual:
Successful completion of a professional engineering degree. To be acceptable, the program must: (1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET); or (2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position.

Current registration as an Engineer Intern (EI), Engineer in Training (EIT), or licensure as a Professional Engineer (PE) by any State, the District of Columbia, Guam, or Puerto Rico. Successful completion of at least 60 semester hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences and in engineering that included the courses specified in the basic requirements under paragraph A (above). The courses must be fully acceptable toward meeting the requirements of an engineering program as described in paragraph A (above)

Successful completion of a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, may be accepted in lieu of a bachelor's degree in engineering, provided the applicant has had at least one year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. Ordinarily, there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.
