You will serve as a IT SPECIALIST (INFOSEC/NETWORK/SYSADMIN) in the Base Level Communications, Defense Information Systems Network division of NAVAL COMP TELCOM AREA WESTPAC.

Duties

You will function as a Defense Information Systems Network (DSN) IT Specialist concerned primarily with the use of digital computers and associated automatic data processing equipment. You will perform voice switch operations and maintenance and system/network administration functions for the Naval Computer and Telecommunications Station, Guam. You will perform system administration functions on both Windows Enterprise Server and RedHat Enterprise Linux Server operation system platforms. You will perform inspections, evaluations, operations, maintenance quality control and test of NCTS Guam Base Communication Office systems, equipment and facilities.

  • This position is designated as a Cyber IT/Cybersecurity Workforce position. You must obtain and maintain the credentials as described in SECNAV M-5239.2 for specialty area 441 level II within 12 months of appointment.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems.

Qualifications

Applicants must have directly applicable experience that demonstrates the possession of knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies necessary for immediate success in the position. Qualifying experience may have been acquired in any public or private sector job, but will clearly demonstrate past experience in the application of the particular competencies or knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to successfully perform the duties of the position. Such experience is typically in or directly relates to the work of the position to be filled. Qualifying experience would be demonstrated by: A. Performing voice switch operations and maintenance and system/network administration functions and associated Telephony Unified Messaging System (TUMS) and Telephony Required Ancillary Equipment (TRAE); VOIP systems; Dense Wave Division Multiplexer (DWDM) optical transport network (OTN) and legacy special circuit network. B. Performing switching network configuration and telephony server management/administration functions. C. Implementing call routing translations, managing information assurance and cyber hygiene patch and maintenance requirements for voice systems and optical transport system/network. Preparing standard login scripts and establishing network access protocols to enable local and remote system/network access. Implementing and supporting GEM-Net special network devices and configurations. D. Performing inspections, evaluations, operations, maintenance quality control and testing of NCTS Guam BCO systems, equipment and facilities. E. Maintaining daily trouble history in Master Station Logs and preparing technical reports on projects, evaluations, analysis and conclusion for assigned systems and networks. This position is within the Work Category 441-Network Operations Specialist at Work Level II, Series and Grade GG-2210. Education

In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree
or
3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.

Basic Requirements

Education: All academic degrees and coursework must be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions.

Undergraduate or Graduate Education: Degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.
