You will serve as a ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN (ELECTRICAL) in the CVN Power and Lighting Branch (Code 276) in the Electrical Engineering and Planning Division (Code 270) for the Engineering and Planning Department (Code 200) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.

Duties

You will coordinate wit other branches for technical accuracy and completeness of work. You will provide technical direction and guidance to lower grade engineers and technicians. You will conduct engineering investigations to aid in formulating design concepts and development and preparation of installation or manufacturing plans, test and operating instructions and reports.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience applying a wide range of electrical concepts, practices, regulations, policies, and precedents. Experience providing engineering drawings and documents, developing status reports and comprehensive briefings for major electrical engineering projects on all types of Navy vessels. Experience executing complex electrical engineering work that enables you to determine and execute actions for a wide range of assignments involving many combinations of interrelated problems. Experience developing and preparing engineering drawings consisting of details, schematics, cabling diagrams, arrangements and functional diagrams reflecting investigative data and deviation from standard guide lines and practices.
