About the Position: You will serve as a Credentialing Specialist within the Naval Medical Center, Quality Management, San Diego, California.
Duties
Incumbent is the Assistant Head for Medical Staff Services and advises the Commander and the Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Medical Staff on matter; related to management of the Credentials Program.
Incumbent monitors the process which ensures the delineation, proper granting, renewal, modification, and appointment of clinical privileges for all health care providers assigned to this hospital, branch clinics and other commands.
Analyzes and evaluates the effectiveness of the program in meeting established goals and objectives.
Maintains, monitors, and reviews the web based Centralized Credentials Quality Assurance System master database, ensuring information is accurate and current.
Executes the technical and professional evaluation of the credentials review and privileging program.
Handles certification and credentialing for the following: bachelor's degree, master's degree, doctorate degree, internship, residency, fellowship, Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates 5th pathway.
Interpreting and implementing policy and making recommendations for improvements to the Chairman of the Credentials Committee.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- In accordance with AR 690-11, this position has been designated as "Emergency-Essential". Emergency-Essential designation takes precedence over any transportation agreement or military recall status.
- This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 25 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
- This position is subject to a mobility or rotation agreement as a condition of employment. You will be required to relocate based on management needs to different geographic location more than once every three years.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Specialized Experience GS-09: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service which includes assisting with the coordination of initial evaluation and/or renewal of clinical privileges of providers within a medical treatment facility; communicating with licensing agencies, professional affiliations, and/or certifying board to verify medical provider information; utilizing office automation software to enter and retrieve data and prepare documents related to credentialing.

Education: Master's degree or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B or J.D. in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of the position. OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. (You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
Specialized Experience GS-11: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-09 grade level in the Federal service that demonstrates a practical knowledge of the subject area of the position which includes: implementation and management of the accreditation and credentialing programs, analyzing and evaluating the credentialing program effectiveness, analysis to ensure compliance with policies and/or regulations, and provide professional and technical guidance on credentialing/privileging matters
OR
Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M. in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. (You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
