This position is responsible for leading day-to-day activities of radiation detection instrumentation quality assurance testing/checks and coordinating calibration of radiation detection equipment, as well as providing technical support to various radiation safety programs.

Duties

Provide technical support to various radiation safety programs Perform laboratory surveys Assist in the maintenance of radiation counting laboratory equipment Manage lab supplies and consumables Provide support in operational activities related to radiation package shipping and receiving Radioactive waste collection, storage, and packaging Routine data interpretation from radiation detection equipment Assist health physicists in developing hazard mitigation plans and ionizing radiation use evaluations

Requirements

  • Suitable for Federal employment
  • Merit applicants must meet time-in-grade/band requirements, as applicable

Qualifications

IN ORDER TO QUALIFY FOR THIS POSITION, APPLICANTS MUST POSSESS ONE OF THE FOLLOWING: One year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-8 (ZT-II at NIST) level. Specialized experience is defined as: Experience working in environments with radioactive materials and radiation producing machines. Experience performing radiological surveys and checking conditions of radioactive sources or x-ray machines. Experience using and calibrating radiation detectors. -OR- Master's degree in a field of study that is directly related to the work of the position -OR- Two full years of graduate education (36 semester hours) in a field of study that is directly related to the work of the position -OR- An equivalent combination of specialized experience and graduate education beyond the first 1 1/2 years (27 semester hours) of progressive graduate study. Graduate education must be in a field of study that is directly related to the work of the position. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done. We will credit all qualifying volunteer experience in your application.
