You will serve as a Quality Assurance Specialist in the Quality Assurance Department Code 706 of TRIDENT REFIT FACILITY, BANGOR. This announcement is for an Upward Mobility Program position.

Duties

You will monitor Strategic Weapons System (SWS)s and Combat Control Systems (CCS), support equipment, documentation, procedures, work center management systems and protective measures necessary to ensure product quality. You will development, implement and maintain effective surveillance plans designed to evaluate the TRIDENT SWS and CCS production shops, product assurance, maintenance, alterations, repair quality, and processing systems. You will monitor processing operations to verify Government and contractor adherence to processing requirements and confirm hardware is processed in a consistent manner and in accordance with approved procedures. You will verify performance of manual and computerized operational and environmental checks of electronic, hydraulic, and electromechanical systems, subsystems, assemblies and components, to confirm conformance with the applicable requirements. You will verify the performance and results of hydrostatic, non-destructive, and weight tests are compliant with applicable standards, specifications and requirements. This effort includes inspections utilizing sophisticated and complex equipment. You will analyze procedures for technical accuracy, applicability, clarity and usability, and makes recommendations for corrections or improvements when necessary, to work center managers and outside engineering agencies. You will review and evaluate conformance to characteristics by observing and analyzing test data results, accompanying documentation, and quality records to verify compliance with specifications.

  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

Qualifications

The Upward Mobility Program is a unique job opportunity. This program is designed to provide Department of Navy employees career growth opportunities who have potential but do not presently meet the Office of Personnel Management qualification requirements for this position. The entry level for this position is GS-09 with a full performance level of GS-11. Knowledge of employees selected may vary and will require the development of an individually tailored training plan to assist them in qualifying for the full performance level of this position. Eligibility requires that the employee be performing satisfactorily, complete all training requirements, acquire the requisite qualifications and have met time-in-grade eligibility for career ladder promotions. This recruitment is open to current UIC 4523A employees who possess the basic knowledge, skills, and ability at or equivalent to WG-10 or GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent in the private or public sector interpreting or utilizing technical engineering documents, instructions, drawings or sketches for the repair or maintenance of ships or industrial equipment.
