Work in the Mail Center section within Logistics Service, receiving, controlling, distributing and dispatching classified and unclassified mail originated from the Department of Veteran's Affairs and other Federal Government Agencies.
Duties
Major duties include but aren't limited to:
Delivering mail and packages.
Processing specialized subject matter to the proper office.
Handling perishables, express\, priority, registered, certified mail and other incoming special mail, obtaining the signature of receiver, as required by the outside source, acknowledging receipt.
Reviewing, wrapping, safeguarding, and mailing classified material for Veteran Affairs organizations.
Determining the most cost efficient manner for delivering mail/parcels to the addressee.
Work Schedule: 7:30am-4:00pm Mon-Fri

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 07/21/2023.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-04 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: delivering mail and any packages; reading and analyzing official mail for routing; processing outgoing, incoming, and controlled mail using automated mail equipment; reviewing incoming and outgoing classified material to ensure that compliance with applicable security and postal regulations. OR,
Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have 4 years of post high school education OR,
Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond high school.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment.
Physical Requirements: The work requires long periods of standing, walking, bending, etc.; or requires recurring lifting and carrying of packages, pouches, or bags of moderate weight (under 50 pounds) and occasional lifting and carrying of heavier materials. Required to operate a 1/2 ton cargo van.
