The primary purpose of this position is to serve as Administrative Officer and principal executive support for the USSPACECOM Directorate of Human Capital (J1) performing various administrative duties in support of the Director, subordinate staff, and the organization in general.

Duties

Serves as Executive Administrative Assistant for the USSC J1 Director and Deputy Director. Maintains oversight of all planned, ongoing, and future activities within J1. Maintains knowledge of applicable Department of Defense (DOD), Service, and HQ USSPACECOM policies and regulations governing activities. Maintains awareness of the goals, intent and policies of the Commander, Directors, and executive staff of USSPACECOM. Prepares and reviews executive-level correspondence for the J1 Director. Extracts and records information pertinent to J1 Director issues and initiates tasking to the senior leadership and staff members. Oversees the administration of the command's staffing and tasking processes to include assigning responsibility, tracking progress, and monitoring to completion. Prioritizes requests for engagement and manages access to leadership in accordance with operational priorities. Receives official taskers and telephone calls, manages inflow of scheduled / unscheduled visitors, and ascertains the nature of the taskings, requests for information, calls or visits. Independently notates and follows-up on commitments made at meetings and conferences by staff members, and maintains J1 Director's calendar, coordinates meeting arrangements, and/or schedules meetings and/or conferences.   • TRAVEL AND RELOCATION EXPENSES WILL BE PAID in accordance with the JTR AND AFMAN 36-606
  • This position is subject to provisions of the DoD Priority Placement Program
  • May occasionally be required to work irregular duty hours to include overtime and/or emergency overtime.
  • Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station for training or in performance of temporary duty assignment (TDY) to include travelling on military or commercial aircraft.
  • A degree or military experience with a concentration in administrative management or other related fields is desired.
  • Position eligible for telework on a situational basis at the discretion of the supervisor. A telework agreement must be signed.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the specialize experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, for Administrative and Management Position. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-07, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes for develops goals and objectives that integrate organization and mission support objectives; knowledge of overall information management procedures, policies and programs to conduct studies; knowledge of analytical, evaluative methods and procedures used in the resolution of administrative issues; knowledge of various office automation software programs, tools and techniques. OR EDUCATION: have successfully completed a master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B or J.D. in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of the position. NOTE: You must submit copies of your transcripts. OR COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: have less than the full amount of specialized experience described in the job opportunity announcement; however, and have at least one year of progressively higher level graduate education, but have not obtained a master's or equivalent graduate degree. Therefore, I have a combination of experience and education. Note: You must submit a copy of your transcripts FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-07 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-09 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of rules, procedures, or operations to perform the procedural and administrative work of an office. 2. Knowledge and skill to gather, assemble, and analyze facts, draw conclusions, assess second order impacts, devise solutions to problems, and identify changes and trends. Knowledge of military organizations and protocol. 3. Ability to apply analytical and evaluative techniques to the identification, considerations, and resolution of issues or problems of a procedural or factual nature. Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, to gain cooperation from others through tact, courtesy, and diplomacy. 4. Skill in coordinating administrative services for a Joint organization. 5. Skill of various office automation software programs, tools, and techniques to support office operations and produce a variety of documents such as letters, reports, spreadsheets, databases, and graphs. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
