About the Position: As a Public Affairs Specialist for U.S. Army North (Fifth Army) (ARNORTH), an Army Service Component Command, plans, develop, coordinate and evaluate public affairs community outreach activities to ensure compliance with legal and regulatory requirements while meeting the needs of our customers. This position is a term position and may be extended up to a maximum of 6 years.

Duties

Advise and assist Public Affairs Office personnel, command leadership, staff, and subordinate units in matters relating to community relations/public information. Plan, organize, and coordinate crisis and emergency risk communication activities during contingency operations. Release information to reach local, regional, national, and/or international audiences through digital, social or traditional news media or to inform selected specialized audiences. Prepare correspondence, memorandums, letters and emails relative to the planning, coordination or promotion of command information or news media events for internal staffing. Oversee Public Affairs programs for a command during deployments with a mission to conduct defense support of civil authorities, homeland defense, and theater security cooperation.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must be able to obtain/hold a Secret Security Clearance. Failure to satisfactory complete any aspect of this process is grounds for termination.
  • Maybe required to deploy within the NORTHCOM AOR on short notice (in under 24 hours) by multiple means of ground and air transportation, as directed by the Secretary of Defense in response to a Presidential Disaster Declaration (PDD).
  • In performing above duties, overtime and shift work will be required on short notice to include nights, holidays, and weekends.
  • Incumbent will be expected to function in adverse climatic conditions and under intense physical and mental stress.
  • Capable, completion training, unassisted donning of mission oriented protective posture (MOPP) mask, clothing and equipment, or equivalent clothing and protective equipment that guards against chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and hazards.
  • Must be able to wear other personal protective equipment (PPE) or clothing such as boots, goggles, gloves, chemical mask and other safety equipment as required.
  • As a pre-condition of employment, any and all incumbents of this position must pass a physical examination.
  • Participation in the DOD/DA Immunization program to include live vaccinations as required by DOD/DA policy.
  • Employees may be required to wear an electronic pager and maintain a working telephone at all times.
  • This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time.
