About the Position: The principal purpose of this position is to serve in the Commanding General's Special Staff providing public affairs advice, authority, technical expertise, and management support to U.S. Army North (USARNORTH) leadership.

Duties

Serves as the primary Public Affairs (PA) expert and adviser within USARNORTH. Participates in command policy formulation; advises on the potential public reaction to proposed policies, plans, and actions. Regularly develops and submits suggestions and recommendations for policies, programs, and procedures governing public affairs functions at agency and subordinate levels. Develops public affairs program strategy, goals, objectives, priorities, plans, policies, procedures, and activities. Analyzes conflicting data and makes program changes or provides recommendations that significantly modifies the organization’s major programs or policies. Provides information in written and oral form, often requiring detailed explanations on sensitive subjects or negative comments made on organization activities or performance in a particular situation or a specific area of operation. Provides assistance and consultation to subordinate units and/or the Joint Base San Antonio Fort Sam Houston installation in initiating and maintaining direct contacts with the general public, specialized groups and community and government. Conducts assessments of public attitudes and perceptions of agency programs. Advises and provides counsel to employees regarding policies, procedures, and directives of management. Develops, modifies, and/or interprets performance standards. Promotes an environment in which employees are empowered to participate in and contribute to effective mission accomplishment.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This position requires travel away from duty station (TDY) up to 25% of the time. Work may occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station on military or commercial aircraft.
  • This position is designated as a key position. Incumbents of key positions must be removed from their military recall status if alternative for filling of the position during an emergency are not available.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a TOP SECRET security clearance.
  • A Drug test is required.
  • This position may be designated mission essential based on local conditions. Mission essential personnel report for duty at normal times in the event of delayed reporting or military installation closure.
  • May occasionally be required to work other than normal duty hours and overtime to include evenings, weekends, or holidays.
  • May be required to be on call and/or to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays.
  • A Supervisory Probationary Period maybe required.
