The U.S. Census Bureau is seeking a highly-motivated and capable executive to serve as the Chief, Policy Coordination Office. This position is a Senior Executive Service (SES) Career Reserved position. Positions in the SES are not graded. SES pay is commensurate with qualifications. SES employees are eligible for bonuses and awards based on performance. Veteran's preference is not applicable to SES.

Duties

As the Chief, Policy Coordination Office, U.S. Census Bureau you will: Manage the activities and programs of the Policy Coordination Office, serve as the key advisor to the Chief of Staff and the Deputy Director, and ensure the Census Bureau ability to promote responsible Data Stewardship practices and compliance with federal laws, regulations, and policies in furtherance of the Census Bureau's mission. Manage the Census Bureau's compliance with federal laws, regulations, and policies relating to confidentiality, data stewardship, and information management; serve as a principal liaison with the program offices and divisions of the Census Bureau to ensure compliance with legal and policy requirements, as well as promoting awareness of Data Stewardship and other information management policies among the broader employee audiences. Coordinate activities across all operating units within the Census Bureau to implement strategies for managing breaches and data handling incidents, emerging policy issues, breaking stories and news events, and to develop key communications strategies, messages, and themes in support of the Census Bureau's activities. Be responsible for applying the principles of Equal Employment Opportunity. Travel Required: Occasional Travel Description: Travel may be required to attend or present at meetings and conferences on topics relevant to the U.S. Census Bureau's mission.

Fundamental Competencies: These competencies are the foundation for success in each of the Executive Core Qualifications: Interpersonal Skills, Communication, Integrity/Honesty, Written Communication, Continual Learning and Public Service Motivation. Professional and Technical Qualifications (PTQs): PTQ #1- Demonstrated experience and knowledge of statistical data and changing demographics of the nation and can support the needs of the broad range of data users including federal, state, and local governments, public and private universities and researchers, and the media. PTQ #2- Demonstrated executive level experience leading the development and implementation of cross-organizational scientific and statistical policies and programs in government, academic, or private sector environments. PTQ #3- Demonstrated experience and knowledge of the legal and policy aspects of data collection and acquisition to support the Census Bureau.
