About the Position: Serve as a staff action officer in the Army G-1 Retirement Services Office (RSO), which is the policy proponent for the Army's worldwide military retirement planning and postretirement programs, the Army Chief of Staff's (CSA) Retired Soldier Council, and the HQDA Survivor Benefit Plan program. Assists in the development and execution of communications-related RSO activities and initiatives.

Duties

Planning, creating, writing content for, and editing quarterly newsletters. Laying out the content in Adobe InDesign software. Creating content for the retirement services portion of Soldier for Life website and the Soldier for Life social media accounts (LinkedIn, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram). Networking across the Army, DOD and the federal government to gather material. Coordinating external guest writers' input and editing the content they provide to meet the Army?s retirement services program needs

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must obtain and maintain a Secret Security Clearance.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes writing and distributing retirement-related articles for external military and military-related publications, newsletters, web sites and/or social media accounts; developing communications messages and products to ensure military leaders understand the importance and relevance of retirement programs and/or policies; applying advanced communication and analytical practices, methods and techniques to solve complex communications problems; articulating and explaining laws, policies, programs and research findings to various stakeholders. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
