You will serve as an Electronics Technician in the Quality Assurance Division, Repair Department, Naval Submarine Support Facility New London, Groton, CT. Vacancies may be filled at any grade level listed. This position has potential for promotion to the target grade of GS-09 without further competition. Promotion will be made after meeting all regulatory requirements, and upon the recommendation of management. Promotion is neither implied nor guaranteed.

Duties

You will be the Electronics Technician in the RADIAC Calibration Laboratory. You will investigate, analyze and resolve problems pertaining to the design, installation, and maintenance or repair of the equipment and subsystems assigned. You will provide evaluation and test services for prototype RADIAC electronic systems of NAVSEA and ISEA. You will participate in preparing the final reports of project work.

Requirements

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators, and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • May be subject to change in shift assignment on an irregular schedule.
  • Incumbent must pass and be able to meet the requirements of a radiation health physical.
  • Incumbent must attend and pass the Radiation Workers Training Course administered at Naval Submarine Support Facility, New London.
  • Incumbent must attend and pass the RADIAC Instrument Calibration Course.

Qualifications

GS-08 Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience with radiation health physics, as a qualified radiation worker, related to radioactive sources, radioactive contamination, and the biological effects of radiation on the human body. Experience utilizing knowledge of RADIAC electronic equipment and its associate electronic test equipment and their operating requirements. Experience utilizing knowledge of radiation health physics relating to radioactive sources, radioactive contamination and biological effects of radiation on the human body. Experience performing work on electronic equipment or subsystems of moderate difficulty with largely standardized configurations. Experience troubleshooting and utilizing specialized techniques to evaluate the operation and perform maintenance on electronic equipment and subsystems. Experience providing technical assistants, both orally or in writing, in a concise and intelligent manner. GS-07 Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of Specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience with radiation health physics, as a qualified radiation worker, related to radioactive sources, radioactive contamination, and the biological effects of radiation on the human body. Experience utilizing knowledge of RADIAC electronic equipment and its associate electronic test equipment and their operating requirements. Experience performing work on electronic equipment or subsystems of moderate difficulty with largely standardized configurations. Experience utilizing training aids, devices and other audio-visual aids to analyze equipment. Experience performing reoccurring assignments independently and recommend solutions when needed. Experience providing technical reports, both orally or in writing, in a concise and intelligent manner. Education

SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: Applicants may substitute the following education for the required experience. This education must be directly related to the work of this position and be from an accredited college or university. (You must submit your transcripts if you are using your education to qualify.)

GS-08: One and one-half years (27 semester hours) of graduate education, directly related to the work of the position.

GS-07: One full year (18 semester hours) of graduate education, directly related to the work of the position.
