You will serve as an Electronics Technician in the Quality Assurance Division, Repair Department, Naval Submarine Support Facility New London, Groton, CT. Vacancies may be filled at any grade level listed. This position has potential for promotion to the target grade of GS-09 without further competition. Promotion will be made after meeting all regulatory requirements, and upon the recommendation of management. Promotion is neither implied nor guaranteed.

Duties

You will perform duties in a developmental capacity concerned with electronic technology, the design and operation of electronic devices, and test equipment. You will apply basic concepts, principles, practices, and techniques to develop, test, and maintain test instrumentation systems. You will provide oral and written reports on the progress and outcome of technical assignments. You will perform duties of a limited scope such as producing, overhauling, and redesigning systems.

• You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
• This is a bargaining unit position.
• May be subject to change in shift assignment on an irregular schedule.
• Incumbent must pass and be able to meet the requirements of a radiation health physical.
• Incumbent must attend and pass the Radiation Workers Training Course administered at Naval Submarine Support Facility, New London.
• Incumbent must attend and pass the RADIAC Instrument Calibration Course.

Qualifications

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: In order to qualify for this position, your resume must demonstrate at least one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower grade level or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience is defined as experience that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled and has equipped you with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills, and abilities, to perform successfully the duties of the position. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: FOR GS-08 (one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-07): Experience using electronic concepts, practices and techniques to develop, construct, test, and perform maintenance of test instrumentation systems. Experience operating electronic test equipment to perform numerous standardized tests or operations. Experience with radiation health physics related to radioactive sources, radioactive contamination and biological effects of radiation on the human body. Experience performing duties of limited scope on projects such as overhauling and redesigning systems. Experience evaluating audio-visual aids to identify materials that will accomplish training objectives. FOR GS-07 (one year of specialized experience equivalent to GS-06): Experience assisting in duties of limited scope on projects such as overhauling and redesigning systems. Experience assisting in operating electronic test equipment to perform numerous standardized tests or operations. Experience evaluating audio-visual aids to identify materials that will accomplish training objectives. SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: Applicants may substitute the following education for the required experience. This education must be directly related to the work of this position and be from an accredited college or university. (You must submit your transcripts if you are using your education to qualify.)

GS-08: One and one-half years (27 semester hours) of graduate education, directly related to the work of the position.

GS-07: One full year (18 semester hours) of graduate education, directly related to the work of the position.

COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be used to meet the total qualification requirements.
