About the Position:
Duties
Develop, organize, execute, and assess one or more sub-elements of the U.S. Army West Point Garrison Safety Program.
Provide technical advice to personnel regarding compliance requirements, resolution of conflicts, hazard assessments, high-hazard abatement actions and plans, trend analysis, and safety awareness promotion and implementation.
Represent the Garrison Safety Manager at various seminars, conferences, committees.
Coordinate meetings to provide technical input on safety and health criteria.
Provide technical information to the Garrison Safety Manager on program initiatives for subordinate directorate programs to minimize high-hazard risks and achieve compliance with established mandates and criteria.
Develop educational materials for newspaper articles, safety-grams, newsletters, and brochures.
Communicate the organization's strategic plan, mission, vision, and values to the Safety Team ensuring integration into the team's strategies, goals, objectives, work plans, and work products and services.
Requirements
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment. A background investigation and credit check are required.
- This is a Career Program-12 (CP-12) position. The incumbent is required to complete Level 1 Skills related training as outlined in the CP-12 Master Training Plan within one year of appointment.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 pounds in the regular performance of duties.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter.
- This position may require the incumbent to use personal protective equipment provided by the employer.
- This position has been designated "Mission Essential".
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience in or related to safety and occupational health that provided the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, which includes 1) conducting safety and occupational health inspections; 2) preparing written reports of inspection findings for command or higher level review; 3) developing safety measures for organizations to eliminate and/or minimize safety hazards; and 4) advising management level officials on workplace safety. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11)
