About the Position: This position is located within the Department of Defense, Small Stand-Alone Market at Keller Army Community Hospital.

Duties

Establish goals, objectives, and milestones for the Safety and Occupational Health Program. Prepare reports of findings and/or follow up with appropriate staff to assure that hazardous situations have been corrected. Train personnel in safety and occupational health requirements and safe work practices sufficient to assure a safe work environment. Develop local directives and procedures establishing technical and administrative safety and occupational health requirements. Interpret safety and occupational health standards as they relate to the hospital or other supported activities for military and civilian personnel. Direct the inspections and/or observations of environmental conditions and employee performance patterns to identify hazards, detect risks, and determine causal relationships.

  • Tier 1: Appointment to this position is subject to a background investigation to determine your suitability for Federal employment.
  • REQUIRED TO COMPLETE THE CP-12 LEVEL 1 SKILLS OUTLINED IN THE 0018 JOB SERIES MASTER TRAINING PLAN AND BE AWARDED THE CP-12 SAFETY AND OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH PROFESSIONAL CERTIFICATE WITHIN 12 MONTHS OF HIRE.
  • Position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience in or related to safety and occupational health that provided the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, which includes: recommending safety and occupational health policy to higher levels of management; applying safety and occupational health laws, regulations, principles, theory's, practices, or procedures to advise on and/or resolve technical matters dealing with occupational safety and health requirements; inspecting or surveying workplaces, processes, products, or other systems for compliance with established safety and occupational health policies or standards; and training staff in safety and occupational health requirements or safe work practices. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Compliance InspectionProgram ManagementSafety and Health Training and EducationTechnical Credibility This position may be converted to permanent career or career-conditional appointment without further competition as long as all requirements are met. To be eligible for conversion, employee must complete at least 2 years of current continuous service under a term appointment in the competitive service AND employee must have a current performance rating under such term appointment of at least fully successful or equivalent.
