Duties
The quality assurance (QA) tester is responsible for comprehensive testing and quality control of training courseware, functional courseware testing in the HQ learning management system environment and documenting all associated content testing activities. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality, learner-friendly, and compliant training materials and platforms.
Key Responsibilities:
-Test and document online courseware and other LMS documents to ensure they are free of typos, spelling errors, grammatical errors, and are written in simple English.
- Design, develop, and execute comprehensive test plans and test cases to validate the functionality, usability, accessibility, and performance of SCORM-based courseware and content.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts, instructional system specialists, and developers to understand requirements and identify potential issues or risks. Analyze test results, document defects, and track resolution to ensure timely and effective issue remediation.
- Provide regular status updates and communicate findings, recommendations, and mitigation strategies to stakeholders.
- Stay current with industry standards, best practices, and emerging technologies related to quality assurance and testing.
- Assist the LTI team in fostering a culture of quality and continuous improvement.
- Contribute to the enhancement of testing methodologies, standard operating procedures, tools, and processes to improve the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the QA function.
- Develop draft course transcript in MS Word for online courseware in accordance with guidelines.
Requirements
- Must be a current permanent Federal employee
- Must have supervisory approval to apply to the Joint Duty Assignment. DHS 250-2 Application Form under "required documents" section.
- Must NOT have any pending/outstanding disciplinary actions
- Must have achieved a minimum of "meet expectations/proficiency" on latest performance appraisal/evaluation
- Must be currently at the grade level of the detail. *No Temporary Promotion Opportunity*
- The program does not apply to members of the Military service or contractors.
Qualifications
Qualifications required:
Bachelor's degree in English, Education, Communications/Journalism, or a related field suited for the job duties of this position.
A degree or minor in Computer Science or Information Technology would be a plus.
5+ years of experience in software or courseware quality assurance, with a strong focus on testing web-based applications and courseware / training content
Proficient in various testing techniques, including functional, integration, and accessibility testing
Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and critical thinking skills
Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams
Familiarity with federal government regulations, standards, and compliance requirements (e.g., Section 508, WCAG) is highly desirable
Experience in the education or training industry is a plus
