About the Position: Provide paralegal and administrative assistance to the Soldiers Medical Evaluation Board (MEB)Counsel and Legal Assistance Attorneys in the Office of the Staff Judge Advocate who provide legal services to eligible clients who are active duty and retired members of the military services and their families. Located at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, Hawaii.

Duties

Summarize comparative legal data to examine and evaluate deficiencies. Research a variety of legal documents to make recommendations to attorneys. Keep abreast of legislative developments, judicial decisions, and/or opinions to addresses policy concerns. Train support personnel on legal concepts, associated with day-to-day operations. Assist with the development and implementation of legal training/training courses. Draft outlines covering specific legal issues for use by the attorney working on a particular case. Prepare a variety of legal documents such as: witness requests and requests for production of documents, appeals, powers of attorney, last will and testament, advance medical directives.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes conducting legal research to assist attorneys with the preparation of legal opinions, legal memoranda, and/or briefings; analyzing legal case files to determine the relevancy of supporting facts/documentation; assisting with the development/implementation of legal training courses; and utilizing legal data tracking systems to capture legal services rendered. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: Master's Degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Pre-Law or Paralegal Studies. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Legal, Government and JurisprudenceReasoningTechnical Competence Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
