The purpose of this position is to operate patient transport vehicles, including patient transport vans/buses and other types transport vehicles, capable of carrying up to 8 or more passengers, to and from VA Medical Center facilities, private healthcare facilities, and other private sector areas like patient homes, railway, bus stations and airports. The Motor Vehicle Operator drives predetermined and/or scheduled routes or special runs.

Duties

Major duties and responsibilities include: Driving truck equipped with and operates hydraulic lift gate for loading and unloading. Compiling all necessary data to fill out all mileage reports, and gas reports on a daily basis. Performing routine maintenance on vehicle, this includes daily cleaning, washing of vehicle and scheduling of preventive maintenance and repairs and informing the supervisor of these repairs. Operating hydraulic lifts on wheelchair vans when transporting wheelchair bound personnel. Driving large van equipped to haul patients confined to a stretcher. Responsible for the safety of passengers and must observe the rules and traffic regulations. Completing accident reports or any other incidents that may occur during operation of government vehicles. Performing other duties as assigned. DRIVER'S LICENSE REQUIREMENT: This position requires a current, valid state driver's license. Do not upload a copy of your license at this time. PHYSICAL EFFORT AND WORK CONDITIONS: Employee must be in good physical condition and have 20/20 vision with or without corrective glasses. Medium to high physical effort is needed in maneuvering vehicles with weights up to 26,000 lb., especially when backing these vehicles. Employee will be required to lift moderate weight as they assist patients into and out of the vehicle. Work will require walking, bending and sitting for long periods of time. Employee must be capable to change a tire if necessary. Work will be performed both inside and outside where the incumbent is exposed to all types of weather. Employee is subject to the injuries involved with loading and unloading of vehicles. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualifications.
