This position is located n the Digital and Social Media Division News and Programming Directorate, Office of Cuba Broadcasting, U.S. Agency for Global Media. The incumbent oversees the creation, curation, and management of high-quality, engaging news content tailored to the Cuban audience.
Duties
As a Supervisory Internet Editor (Spanish), you will be responsible for duties to include, but are not limited to:
Major Duty 1 - News Coverage and Data-Driven Editorial Decision Making
- Coordinates the work of writers, reporters, graphic designers, and editors involved in the preparation and production of web content.
- Oversee the daily operations of reporters and editors to produce engaging and high-quality news content.
- Provide editorial direction on topic selection and story approval, ensuring relevance and accuracy.
- Assign and coordinate coverage of breaking news, feature stories, and enterprise pieces based on current events and trends.
- Use digital tools such as News Whip, Google Trends, Emplifi, and Chartbeat to identify trending stories and strategically organize news coverage.
- Ensure that content is well suited for various digital platforms and resonates with the target audience.
- Use analytics and metrics to inform editorial decisions and optimize content strategy.
- Monitor audience engagement and content performance to drive traffic and improve digital presence.
- Stay informed about domestic and international news events and trends to inform content strategy and decision-making.
- Coordinates with other platform and shares best practices, identifies and uses resources, and shares reporting across the OCB's multiple platforms.
Major Duty 2 - Editorial Oversight
Reports and edits stories in Spanish and English and produce content to fill content gaps.
Review and edits incoming reports in Spanish and English for accuracy, balance, and clarity, ensuring alignment with assigned stories.
Make editorial decisions on necessary revisions, updates, and follow-ups.
Guide reporters and editors on best practices to enhance content visibility and engagement.
Exercise sound editorial judgment in a fast-paced environment, managing content under deadline pressure.
Major Duty 3 - Supervises a blended workforce of OCB employees, contractors, and stringers writers, reporters, broadcasters, producers, and graphic designers
- Plans work to be accomplished by subordinates, sets and adjusts short-term
priorities, and prepares schedules for completion of work.
- Assigns work to subordinates based on priorities, selective consideration of the difficulty and requirements of assignments, and the capabilities of employees.
- Prepares Performance Elements and Standards and prepares annual Performance Appraisal reports for staff members.
- Provide ongoing feedback and training to ensure staff adherence to editorial standards and OCB guidelines.
- Gives advice and counsels employees on both work and administrative matters.
- Interviews candidates for positions in the unit; recommends appointment,
promotion or reassignment to such positions.
- Approves or denies leave requests, work schedules, and training requests.
- Identifies developmental and training needs of employees; provides or arranges for needed development and training.
- Finds ways to improve production or increase the quality of the work directed and develops performance standards.
- Build and develop teams to enhance their skills and productivity, promoting best practices in digital journalism.
- Hears and resolves complaints from subordinates.
- Effectuates minor disciplinary actions such as written warnings and reprimands; recommends action in more serious cases.

Requirements
- You must be a U.S Citizen or U.S. National.
- Candidates MUST meet all qualification requirements by closing date.
- This is a public trust position. If selected, this position requires the completion of the SF-86.
- Suitability Determination: If selected, you may be subject to a background investigation to establish your suitability for federal employment. The background investigation may include, among other aspects, a review of your credit and legal history.
- This position has been designated supervisory requiring that the selectee on an initial appointment as a supervisor or manager serve a one-year probationary period.
- The full performance grade level for this position is GS-13.

Qualifications
Screen out factor #1 Applicants must have one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level that is in or directly related to this line of work.Specialized Experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. For this position, all of the following specialized experience is required:
Experience with journalistic principles and techniques.
Expertise in digital tools for content discovery and analysis.
Expertise in internet publishing and content management systems.
Ability to work under tight deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
Experience and skill in producing programming content for both conventional as well as web- based and social media platforms.
Screen Out Factor #2: Applicant must have native fluency in the Spanish language; and fluency in the English language that enables you to speak, read, write, report, and translate in both languages. This language screen out factor MUST be listed in your resume to receive consideration.
Screen out factor #3: Applicant must have extensive knowledge of Cuba, including its people, culture, history, politics, economics, and current events. This extensive knowledge MUST be clearly articulated in your resume to receive consideration.
