Duties
NIST's Physical Measurement Laboratory (PML) sets the definitive U.S. standards for nearly every kind of measurement employed in commerce and research, sometimes across more than 20 orders of magnitude. This position is in PML's Quantum Sensors Division, whose mission is to provide the metrological foundation for emerging electronic, magnetic, and photonic technologies by developing high-precision measurement devices, systems, standards, and methodologies and applying them to address national needs.
If you are hired as an Administrative Office Assistant (OA) for this division, you will:
Provide clerical and administrative support to the office, including:
processing travel authorizations and vouchers
preparing documentation for guest researchers' appointments/renewals
assisting with the in-processing of new employees and associates including arranging for office space, phones, and computer accounts prior to arrival
preparing for and executing out-processing actions prior to the departure of exiting employees and associates
managing time and attendance
purchasing equipment, supplies, and services
serving as a bankcard holder
preparing training requests and documenting completed training in the Commerce Learning Center database
scheduling meetings, registering visitors, managing files, and serving as the principal office contact for phone calls and visitors
Prepare documents, reports, and correspondence requiring typing at least 40 WPM and experience using a variety of office automation software, such as spreadsheet and word processing software
Serve as an expert in all areas of this position and train all new administrative support positions with minimal supervision and support.

Qualifications
Applicants must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 level (ZS-III) in the federal service.
Specialized experience is defined as:
Experience applying Federal regulations/procedures
Experience providing general administrative support and backup for other support staff in areas such as travel, purchase cards, time and attendance, etc.
Experience developing and presenting training on various administrative subjects to staff
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
