This vacancy is for an Administrative Support Assistant (OA) in the National Telecommunications and Information Administration within the Department of Commerce.

Duties

As an Administrative Support Assistant (OA), you will perform the following duties: Assists with procurement of supplies, equipment, and services; travel plans and reimbursements; time and attendance; property management and inventory; financial tracking, and records management. Carries out routine administrative assignments requiring the application of clear and well-established methods, practices, and techniques, under supervisory instructions on objectives, limitations, priorities, and deadlines; collects, verifies, compiles and summarizes data or information, processes routine actions, and assists higher level specialists in more complex activities; provides recommendations for process improvements. Works collaboratively with the team to set and meet consistent standards of performance, to provide back-up support to other team members, and to identify and meet the needs of client divisions. Provides administrative support to supervisors, managers and other employees in day-to-day operations and overall office management. Communicates with service providers, technical staff, management, and outside organizations. Reviews and prepares communications, sets up and coordinates meetings and events, prepares organization-wide announcements and completes division-wide assignments. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications

Qualification requirements in the vacancy announcements are based on the U.S. Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook, which contains federal qualification standards. This handbook is available on the Office of Personnel Management's website located at: https://www.opm.gov/policy-data-oversight/classification-qualifications/general-schedule-qualification-standards/ Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the next lower grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This experience need not have been in the federal government. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies; knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. This position is being filled under the DOC Alternative Personnel System (CAPS). The system replaced the Federal GS pay plan structure. Under CAPS, positions are classified by career, pay plan, and pay band. Non-supervisory positions cap out at interval 3 of the band. The ZS-5 is equivalent to the GS-9/10 grade levels. To qualify at the ZS-5- GS-9 level: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 grade level in the Federal Service. Experience for this position includes: - Planning, reviewing, and coordinating administrative tasks; - Performing records management activities; and, - Applying established methods and techniques to solve administrative problems. OR Master's or equivalent graduate degree OR 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree OR LL.B. or J.D., if related OR Combination of education and experience. * GS-09: Select the one statement that best describes the education and/or experience that you possess that demonstrates your ability to perform Administrative Specialist work at the GS-09 level or equivalent pay band in the Federal service. A. I have one year of experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 level or pay band in the Federal service that includes performing the following duties: (1) Planning, reviewing, and coordinating administrative tasks; (2) Performing records management activities; and (3) Applying established methods and techniques to solve administrative problems. B. I have a Master's or equivalent degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree. C. I have an LLM., if related. D. I have a combination of education and experience. E. My experience or education is not reflected in the above statements.
