This position is located in the Department of Homeland Security (DHS),Office of Public Affairs.
The primary purpose of this position is to support the Director of Internal Communication in carrying out the DHS internal communication strategy.
Non-BU: This is a non-bargaining unit position.
Duties
As a Writer-Editor, GS-1082-13, your typical work assignments may include the following:
Making recommendations for the development of communication procedures for both general and targeted audiences.
Developing, writing, and publishing news about the Department and its components to the Department's intranet site.
Evaluating coverage and audience responses and recommending changes to the content and format as appropriate.
Overseeing and recommend development of the internal facing websites and homepages.
Drafting, editing, and distributing messages to employees.

Requirements
- You must be a U.S. citizen to apply for this position.
- Males born after 12/31/1959 must be registered for Selective Service.

- Complete the initial online assessment and USAHire Assessment, if required.
- You must submit to a pre-employment drug test. This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) and is subject to random testing.

Qualifications
Specialized Experience:
To qualify for the GS-13 grade level, you must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level in the Federal service, or comparable experience not gained through federal service. For this position, specialized experience is defined as:
Performing research to prepare and publish written materials to develop authoritative information on various programs;
Preparing and publishing written content to convey new and important agency policies programs and research findings; and
Utilizing publishing concepts practices and standards to serve as technical authority and guidance.
Substitution of education in lieu of specialized experience may not be used for this grade level.

Time-in-grade: Current General Schedule (GS) federal employees, and those that have served in GS positions within the last 52 weeks, must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade, or a combination of the next lower grade level and an equivalent band in the federal service by the closing of this announcement.
