This is a TEMPORARY, INTERMITTENT position in one of the functional bureaus. The incumbent serves as a Secretary responsible for providing administrative support to high-ranking officials such as Office Directors and Deputy Directors, domestically and overseas.
Duties
Reviews correspondence and documents prepared for signature of or requiring coordination by the Director for conformance with regulations, grammar, format and special polices of the organization (e.g. Office, Bureau or Department).
Receives all incoming visitors and telephone calls to the Office Director.
Reads incoming publications, regulations and directives which may be important to the activities of the Director or members of the staff. Refers those of importance or interest to the Director.
Acts as liaison between Director and subordinate managers by providing accurate, timely advice on procedures, reports, requirements and other matters.
Controls Director’s activities schedule and reminds him/her of appointments. Makes all travel arrangements, making transportation and hotel reservations, notifying organizations and officials to be visited, keeping in touch with the Director.

- Must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.
- Medical clearance is required.
- Must be able to type 40 words per minute.

Qualifications

NOTE: Applicants must meet time-in-grade and time after competitive appointment requirements, by the closing date of this announcement. Time-In-Grade Requirements: Federal applicants must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade to satisfy time-in-grade restrictions, per 5CFR 300, Subpart F.
Applicants applying for the GS-07 grade level must have at least 1 full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 level in the Federal service which provided you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the position. Qualifying specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience reviewing outgoing correspondence for proper grammar, spelling, punctuation and compliance with established policy planning and organizing priorities to manage office workload.
Experience monitoring and tracking document flow within the office; making travel arrangements and preparing travel vouchers.
Experience coordinating conferences and/or meetings; screening and handling telephone calls and visitors.
Experience locating and summarizing information to be used for reports, responses to inquiries and composing correspondence and maintaining activity calendar.
AND
Must be able to type a minimum of 40 wpm with no more than 3 errors. Note: Individuals may be required to take a typing exam.
Education Substitution: As a general rule, education is not creditable at this level for most positions covered by this standard; however, graduate education may be credited in those few instances where the graduate education is directly related to the work of the position.
