Duties

The Staff Assistant/Event Services Manager is the principal support services specialist for the Marshal's Office. The incumbent has principal responsibility for event management, contract management and a variety of other support activities and programs. Serves as a point of contact and liaison between and among Justices, coordinating staff, Court Officers, Justices' groups, caterers and others when planning events. The Staff Assistant/Event Services Manager works with outside vendors and contractors. Specific responsibilities include researching, designing, planning, coordinating, and evaluating all events and programs through the Marshal's Office. The Court conducts approximately 900 events sponsored by the Justices and Court Officers each year. Event types include: admission ceremony breakfasts, briefings and meetings, luncheons, receptions, dinners, and ceremonial programs such as investitures, funerals, memorials, and portrait unveilings. Incumbent must be present for all events that occur in the Court, including, approximately 50 after-hour events. Due to the diversity and complexity of the Court's Event Program, the incumbent is constantly faced with changing workloads, short deadlines, and unanticipated requirements. Duties require discretion and behind­ the-scenes competence. Incumbent must be an expert in protocol as it relates to everything from treatment of dignitaries to proper table settings and proper service. The incumbent acts as a Contracting Officer's Representative (COR) to ensure that the performance of any service contractor complies with the terms and conditions of relevant contracts. The COR is the primary interface between the Contractor and the Contracting Officer (CO). Specific responsibilities include ensuring that all required items, documentation, data and/or reports are submitted as required by the contract. Conveying written tasks or instructions to the contractor, through the CO, and informing the CO of unforeseen conditions or any contemplated changes to the contract. The incumbent participates fully as a member of the Marshal's Office support staff in managing the day-to-day operation of the Court. Among other duties, receives visitors, to include VIP guests for Justices and Officers of the Court; general office administration and performs the full range of duties of the Deputy Marshal (Administrative Support) in her absence.

Qualifications

At least five years of experience in event management and support services procedures required. The incumbent is required to have: (1) a working knowledge of the Supreme Court and its general functions, as well as the Federal Judiciary and the Federal Government; (2) skill in gathering data and applying sound analyses for the audit and review functions outlined in the job responsibilities; (3) superior communications skills, both oral and written; (4) sound judgment, tact, a very courteous demeanor and the ability to interact effectively with everyone, from Justices and Members of Congress to arguing counsel, distinguished guests, members of the Bar and the general public; and (5) initiative and the ability to work independently within a team environment.

Education

High School diploma plus higher education in a business or related field required. College degree desirable.
