Duties
Serves as the principal office manager for the Deputy Director.
Handles all travel arrangements for the Office of the Director.
Reviews and analyzes all correspondence for the Deputy Director’s signature for clarity, completeness of reply and grammatical and procedural correctness.
Uses automated equipment for word processing, file management, creating/compiling special reports, electronic mail, and other applications to support office operations.
Exercises control over the Deputy Director’s appointments and calendar, arranging conferences and meetings.
Advises senior leadership on administrative matters relating to the accomplishment, coordination, integration and synchronization of a variety of substantive staff actions, events and other related assignments.
Monitors and maintains electronic correspondence tracking system, tracking progress of incoming/outgoing action items in the Deputy Director’s Office.
Requirements

- You cannot hold an active real estate license; nor can you have an interest or hold stocks in firms with interest in Federal Land.
- Appointment will be subject to a favorably adjudicated background/suitability investigation/determination.
- This position requires a qualified typist, able to type a minimum of 40 words per minute.
- May require a one year probationary period.
Qualifications

This position requires a qualified typist, Minimum typing proficiency of 40 words per minute based on a 5-minute sample with three or fewer errors. Applicants may meet these requirements by passing the appropriate performance test, presenting a certificate of proficiency from a school or other organization authorized to issue such certificates, OR by self-certifying their proficiency. Performance test results and certificates of proficiency are acceptable for 3 years.

For the GS-11: You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity. Specialized experience is defined as: experience providing organizational support in a senior executive level office environment; reviewing, editing, analyzing and tracking incoming and outgoing correspondence; researching, gathering and organizing background materials for use in reports and meetings; arranging conferences and meetings; writing reports and final documents for signature; experience providing discretion and sensitivity for Directorate affairs. At this grade level, experience includes performing Executive Assistant duties for National Director or similar senior executive leadership position.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade requirement in accordance with 5 CFR 300.604. If you are a current Federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must have completed a minimum of 52 weeks at the next lower grade level.
There are no qualification requirements for a detail assignment. However employees must meet any positive education/licensure requirements in order to be detailed to positions with these requirements. Detail assignments do not include additional compensation and the selectee will not earn time-in-grade at the higher grade level.
