This vacancy is for a Supervisory Economist (Direct Hire) in the International Trade Administration within the Department of Commerce.
Duties
As a Supervisory Economist (Direct Hire), you will perform the following duties:
Develops and implements strategic initiatives. Aligns program strategies with broad organizational strategy and goals. Use macroeconomic data to analysis to develop broad strategic themes; identifies objectives and performance drivers.
Prepares international trade and economic briefing materials for senior executive officials to use in policy development and formulation.
Serves as ITA's primary advisor and recommends courses of action to achieve Industry and Analysis goals and objectives.
Provides supervision and overall direction to staff. Assigns staff responsibilities and establishes priorities.

BASIC EDUCATION REQUIREMENT: The below represents the Economist 0110 series education requirement:
A. Degree: A bachelor's or higher degree in economics, that included at least 21 semester hours in economics and 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting, or calculus.
OR
B. Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in economics, as shown in above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
AND
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the next lower grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This experience need not have been in the federal government. To qualify at the GS-15 level, you must possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 level in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as:
Experience with development and analysis of existing and new challenges in U.S. trade policies; and
Developing policy or strategy recommendations for senior officials regarding international trade or economic issues related to the effects on U.S trade policies and initiatives; and
Briefing senior officials and preparing comprehensive reports that provide recommendations on U.S and international trade and economic issues; and
Experience leading a Team and/or supervising staff.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies; knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
