This position is located in the Division of Insurance and Research, Center for Financial Research (CFR) Branch, Headquarters Office of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and leads the production of research and provides economic expertise in the development and execution of analyses to support the mission of the division and the Corporation. Additional selections may be made from this vacancy announcement to fill identical vacancies that occur subsequent to this announcement.

Duties

Publishes studies in external publications including CFR Working Papers, FDIC Staff Studies, and other FDIC publications, as well as peer-reviewed journals. Lead development teams in conducting technical evaluation of policy, research, and develop models to support FDIC internal operations.  Conducts and provides leadership on research, analyses, and evaluation of various Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation internal operations. Provides constructive feedback on the research of colleagues through participating in seminars, discussing papers at conferences, and refereeing for peer-reviewed journals. Serves as a senior advisor to Division and branch leadership in research of banking, financial, and regulatory programs.

Qualifications

Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private or public sector. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g. Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious spiritual; community; student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.  Additional qualifications information can be found here. To qualify, applicants must meet the Basic Requirements and the minimum qualifications to qualify for each grade they wish to be considered for. Basic Requirement:  A. Degree: economics, that included at least 21 semester hours in economics and 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting, or calculus. OR B. Combination of education and experience--courses equivalent to a major in economics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting the Basic Requirement above, applicants must also meet the minimum qualifications to be considered: To qualify, applicants must have completed at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS/CG-14 grade level or above in the Federal service.  Specialized experience is defined as experience publishing research in peer-reviewed journals and experience with at least one of the following in the areas of banking, finance, or consumer research: bank examinations, development or use of econometric/statistical forecasting models for use in business decisions, or the development or implementation of surveys.
