THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION. This National Guard position is for an IT SPECIALIST (SYSADMIN/NETWORK), Position Description Number D1618000 and is part of the ID G4 CSSAMMO, Idaho Army National Guard. THIS POSITION IS PERMANENT.

Duties

This position is located in an information management organization. The purpose of the position is to serve as a systems administrator on one or more of the systems maintained/administered throughout the state. The systems administered involve multiple computers that use multiple operating systems. The incumbent is responsible for installing and testing the system security configuration and monitoring, operating, troubleshooting and maintaining server hardware and software. Develops, modifies, and tests overall system backup and recovery strategies for assigned systems. Serves as a technical focal point for the installation and configuration of hardware and software on personal computers and for personal data assistants associated with assigned systems. Serves as a systems administrator responsible for planning, coordinating, modifying, implementing, and troubleshooting in order to meet customer needs. Work pertains to the administration of all systems, including a myriad of associated hardware platforms, software applications and numerous interfaces included in the Local Area Network (LAN) and Wide Area Network (WAN). Serves as a technical focal point on multiple operating systems and computer platforms. Provides technical assistance and advice to personnel involved in system design, programming, database design, and modifying commercially developed software. Determines equipment and communications requirements and interfaces with other systems. Evaluates machine usage and develops plans for the necessary acquisition to support future automation (hardware and software) requirements. Analyzes, evaluates, and recommends hardware/software changes to various computer systems. Considers factors such as compatibility with standard systems, conversion or implementation costs, and impact on existing equipment. Installs, configures and tests products and equipment being reviewed. Develops guidelines, standard operating procedures (SOPs), bulletins and flyers regarding the operation/use of assigned C4 systems, services, and activities. Analyzes policies, regulations, and system provisions governing standard operating systems and provides assistance and advisory services to users. Implements systems software changes, operating system releases and maintains the operational status of systems. Coordinates with system developers to resolve solutions to hardware and/or software malfunctions.

• This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.

• Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
• Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
• May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
• Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
• Must be able to obtain/maintain Secret Security Clearance.
• Must be able to obtain/maintain an MOS in the following categories 25B, 68G, 92A, 25A, AND 92B.

Qualifications

Military Grades: E-5 THROUGH CW2 GENERAL EXPERIENCE: This series covers two-grade interval administers that manage, supervise, lead, administer, develop, deliver, and support information technology (IT) systems and services. This series covers only those positions for which the paramount requirement is knowledge of IT principles, concepts, and methods; e.g., data storage, software applications, networking. Minimum Requirements: Experience, education or training that has provided a basic knowledge of data processing functions and general management principles that enabled the applicant to understand the stages required to automate a work process. Experience may have been gained in work such as computer operator or assistant, computer sales representative, program analyst, or other positions that required the use or adaptation of computer programs and systems. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: GENERAL EXPERIENCE:Experience, education or training that has provided a basic knowledge of data processing functions and general management principles that enabled the applicant to understand the stages required to automate a work process. Experience may have been gained in work such as computer operator or assistant, computer sales representative, program analyst, or other positions that required the use or adaptation of computer programs and systems. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:Must have at least 24 months experience, education, or training in analysis of the interrelationship of pertinent components of the system. Experience planning the sequence of actions necessary to accomplish the assignment. Experience scheduling the sequence of programs to be processed by computers where alternatives had to be weighed with a view to production efficiency. Requires a practical knowledge of and skill in applying customer support, principles, concepts and methods to install, configure, test, troubleshoot and maintain a variety of standard hardware and software on customer workstations and throughout the state. Work also involves presenting formal and informal training and assistance to customers throughout the organization. Applying quality assurance principles, evaluating established methods and procedures and preparing recommendations for changes in methods and practices where appropriate and ensuring the application of appropriate security measures to the assignment. Information Assurance Certification may be a condition of employment. This position could include information assurance (IA) work as a paramount duty requirement. Per DoD 8570.01-M, the incumbent of this position may be required to achieve the appropriate IA certification within six months of assignment of these duties. A waiver of this six month requirement may be granted per DoD 8570.01-M, C3.2.4.2 or C3.2.4.3. Failure to receive the proper IA certification may result in removal from this position.
