This position is located in Grand Canyon National Park, North Rim, AZ in the Facility Management Division. Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. You will work from approximately July to May, and you will be in a non-pay status for the remainder of the year in the month of June.

Duties

Major Duties: Plumbing - Installs, modifies, and repairs new and existing utility, supply, and disposal systems and equipment such as sewage, water, oil, and gas distribution systems and water closets, tubs, fire sprinkler systems, and showers, and lay out of such things as angles, arcs, and circles. Lays sewer tile, replaces stools, lavatories; and replaces pumps and water meters. Carpentry - Constructs, alters, modifies or repairs a wide range of features in buildings, quarters and other facilities. Constructs storage areas, workrooms, and offices within existing buildings including framework, rafters, joists, insulation, sheet rock, paneling, doors, windows, and flooring. Builds small structures and replaces deteriorated sections of existing structures. Constructs interior and exterior stairs. Installs exterior siding and roofing. Electrical - Installs, repairs, replaces, troubleshoots electrical systems and circuits, GFCI 15, 20, 30 50 amp receptacles, switches, fuses, light bulbs, wiring, conduits, knows basic electrical theory Ohms and Power Law. Uses VOM meters, amp meters, bending conduit, voltage detectors, locaters, drills, saws, hand and power tools. Painting - Performs painting duties with little oversight and/or review of work during progress or upon completion. Paints, decorates, and refinishes a variety of interior and exterior surfaces of offices and buildings, family dwellings, other structures, finishing, and equipment. Completes all painting, varnishing, etc. functions to include marbling, graining, speckling, tinting and toning of paint, and matching existing colors. Masonry - Constructs, repairs, replaces, masonry and stone walls, performs tuck pointing, applies repairs stucco walls. From oral instructions, blueprints, work orders, and rough sketches, incumbent plans and lays out masonry work, selects the proper tools, determines materials to be used, and accomplishes the work in accordance with appropriate methods and accepted trade practices with no technical assistance. Roofing - Responsible for installing new roofs, including metal flashing, gutters, and other roofing accessories, and repair or replace sheathing, boards, beams, and joists. North Rim Area Information: Grand Canyon's North Rim is situated on the Kaibab Plateau in a ponderosa and spruce forest with elevations ranging from 8,000-8,800 feet above sea level. Within a few hours' drive, residents can access endless trails, National Park Service sites, ecosystems ranging from sub-alpine to red rock desert, and many recreational opportunities. Within walking distance from the North Rim housing area are several hiking trails of varying difficulty. The nearest community with a full range of services is Kanab, UT approximately 80 miles from the North Rim, while Flagstaff, Arizona and St. George, Utah are within a few hours of the North Rim and provide shopping, medical, and recreation opportunities typically found in large cities. Assigned employee housing is located on the North Rim and is a mix of traditional homes, apartments, and small cabins. North Rim summers are typically cool with highs in the 80s and lows in the 60s while winters are often snowy and cold with highs in the 30s and lows in the teens. Summer also brings group activities like potluck dinners, campfires on the rim, outdoor movie nights, and socializing on warm summer evenings. During the summer season, there can be up to 250 residents on the North Rim with much quieter winters seeing approximately 30 residents and reduced visitation. In a typical summer season (May 15 - October 15), the North Rim welcomes approximately 500,000 visitors. Summer services include restaurants, general store, post office, coffee shop and overnight accommodations at the North Rim Lodge. There is a year-round gas station on the North Rim for visitors and North Rim residents. National Park Service employees have year-round access to a community room, small library, and fitness center with treadmills and weight training equipment. Beyond the North Rim Developed Area, there are approximately 20 miles of paved scenic roads, 80 miles of high clearance 4x4 roads, and hundreds of miles of trails/routes including immediate access to the North Kaibab Trail/cross-canyon corridor. Just outside the park in the Kaibab National Forest there are hundreds of miles of two-wheel drive accessible dirt roads and roads requiring high clearance 4x4 vehicles or UTVs. The Kaibab National Forest also has world class dispersed camping, hunting, birding, and an incredibly diverse range of plants. Equestrians, runners, hikers, climbers, hunters, backpackers, photographers, birders, and sight seers can find activities suited to their interests within half a day's drive or less.

To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (SCREEN OUT) Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprints reading) Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation Repair, etc. Knowledge of materials Technical Practices (theoretical precise, artistic) Use of Measuring Instruments To be minimally qualifying you must demonstrate in your resume experience with at least two of the following trades as a Maintenance Mechanic WG-09 at the journeyman level: Carpentry, Plumbing, Painting, Masonry, Water Treatment Plant Operations, or Roofing. At this level, you have performed the work with a high level of independence. If your knowledge and ability in the SCREEN OUT factor above is not sufficient, you will receive no further consideration. Education

There is no substitution of education for experience for Wage Grade (WG) positions.
