Administratively responsible for the development of the facility LGBTQ+ Veteran Care Program. Develops policies and procedures for program operation and prepares reports and statistics. Plans, organizes and directs administrative, operational, Veteran and personnel activities. Extensive knowledge of the history, cultures and values of the LGBTQ+ community as well as the history and culture of specific to LGBTQ+ in the military and the Department of Veterans Affairs.

The duties of the Social Worker (Program Coordinator) includes but is not limited to:
Program Management
Develops and establishes linkages and collaborates on LGBTQ+ Veteran Care Program efforts with community healthcare and social service agencies.
Targets outreach efforts for Veterans through community networks.
Promotes the use of VA benefits, programs, and services.
Identifies gaps in services and make recommendations to improve service delivery within their facilities.
Provides administrative oversight of program and administers information and analytical systems to evaluate and enhance the quality of service provided to patients.
Develops and implements information systems to track service activities including visits, referrals, patient demographics, and patient satisfaction.
Stays abreast of current federal and state legislation directed at Veterans, their family members, Caregiver and/or VA employees who experience any psychosocial stressors and/or discrimination due to identifying as LGBTQ+.
Responsible for key project activities related to the planning, development, and implementation of the project component.
Clinical Care
Participates in direct Veteran, family, Caregiver, and VA employee contacts to identify and assess risk, safety, supports and the development and application of directed clinical treatment interventions.
Advises and collaborates with interdisciplinary teams throughout the medical center on LGBTQ+ services, concerns, issues.
Provides education and in-service training to VAMC employees, Veterans, families, and Caregivers.
Provides ongoing consultation and support to colleagues regarding LGBTQ+ services and assistance.
Develops and facilitates support groups and educational programs.
Provides referrals to VA medical and mental health treatment and to other VA services (i.e. VA benefits, community-based social services, non-VA entitlement programs).
Work Schedule: PART-TIME 20 hours a week.

Qualifications
Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met.
BASIC REQUIREMENTS
1. United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
2. Education: Applicant must have a master's degree in social work from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE).Graduates of schools of social work that are in candidacy status do not meet this requirement until the School of Social Work is fully accredited. A doctoral degree in social work may not be substituted for the master's degree in social work. Verification of the degree can be made by going to Accreditation | CSWE to verify that the social work degree meets the accreditation standards for a masters of social work.
3. Licensure: Persons hired or reassigned to social worker positions in the GS-0185 series in VHA must be licensed or certified by a state to independently practice social work at the master's degree level. 4. English Language Proficiency: Candidates must be proficient in spoken and written English to be appointed as authorized by 38 U.S.C. § 7403(f).
GRADE DETERMINATION
In addition to meeting the above Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Grade Determination criteria below:
Senior Social Worker, GS-12
A. Experience/Education. One year of experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. Experience must demonstrate possession of advanced practice skills and judgment, demonstrating progressively more professional competency. Candidate may have certification or other post-master's degree training from a nationally recognized professional organization or university that includes a defined curriculum/course of study and internship, or equivalent supervised professional experience.
B. Licensure/Certification. Individuals assigned as social worker program coordinator must be licensed or certified at the advanced practice level, and must be able to provide supervision for licensure.
C. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA). In addition to the experience or education above, the candidate must demonstrate the following KSAs:
Knowledge of program coordination and administration which includes consultation, negotiation, and monitoring.
Knowledge and ability to write policies, procedures, and/or practice guidelines for the program.
Ability to supervise multidisciplinary staff assigned to the program.
Skill in organizing work, setting priorities, meeting multiple deadlines, and evaluating assigned program area(s).
Ability to provide training, orientation, and guidance within clinical practice.

This position is announced and recruited at the GS-12 - above the Full Performance Level.
Physical Requirements: The work is sedentary. Typically, the employee sits comfortably to do the work. However, there may be some walking, standing, bending, carrying of light items (medical records, computing devices, manuals, papers, books, small parts), or driving an automobile. The work requires manual dexterity for computer data entry, office machine operation and filing. However, in general, the work does not require unusual physical demands. The work does require emotional stability to resolve crisis situations.
