You will serve as an Engineering Technician (Mechanical) in the Facility and Infrastructure Management Department of FLEET READINESS CENTER SOUTHWEST.
Duties
You will be responsible for the design and development of jigs, fixtures, special tools, and test equipment to meet the requirements determined by job objectives.
You will provide complete drawings and specifications for manufacture, modification, or procurement of the equipment.
You will direct the work of other engineers or engineering technicians in the accomplishment of any project and verify compliance of the equipment used for final acceptance.
You will provide overhaul and repair procedures for ground support equipment to meet the needs of the local facility as well as prepare correspondence and engineering directives to the testing of the item(s).
You will investigate and report findings relative to the failure of ground support equipment as directed by the authority in control of the item.

- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
Qualifications
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the (GS-09) grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
(1) Designing and developing jigs, fixtures, special tools, and test equipment to meet the requirements determined by the review and investigation of the needs of the shop/facility; (2) Providing complete drawings and specifications for manufacture, modification, or procurement of the equipment while providing technical directives for operation, calibration, and maintenance as required; (3) Demonstrating overhaul and repair procedures for ground support equipment to meet the needs of the local facility and determining test and inspection procedures for ion operations, engineering reports, and other directives; (4) Investigating and reporting findings relative to the failure of ground support equipment as directed by the authority in control of the item(s); and (5) Directing the work of other engineers or engineering technicians, with assistance by a supervisor, to verify compliance of the equipment used for final acceptance.

Experience in a trade or craft may be credited as specialized experience when the work provided intensive knowledge of engineering principles, techniques, methods, and precedents. Examples are trade positions with substantial developmental, test, or design responsibilities such as:
- Planner and estimator who analyzed designs for production purposes.
- Instrument maker or model maker who performed design or development work on devices fabricated.
OR
Engineering technicians may be certified by the National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies, an organization sponsored by the National Society of Professional Engineers. Certification by the Institute will be helpful as a measure of the technician's quality of experience.
