You will serve as an IT SPECIALIST (CUSTSPT/NETWORK) in the Digital Business Directorate (Code 15) Information Technology Asset Management Team (ITAM) of NCIS.
All Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) positions are in the excepted service. This position is in the excepted service and does not confer competitive status.
Duties
You will install, configure, maintain and manage the of organizational Computer Systems, Local Area Networks, and Wide Area Networks.
You will perform computer hardware and software maintenance, troubleshooting and resolving computer issues and outages.
You will develop and maintain technical policies and procedures and administering internal controls and quality assurance plans.
You will support Information Technology projects, conducting project tasks, and coordinating project efforts with all command field units in area of responsibility.
You will conduct the inventory of Information Technology equipment and software in support of Information Technology projects and special support missions of the organization.
You will represent the Information Technology team in meetings and conferences with counterparts internal and external to the organization.
Requirements

- Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
Qualifications
I have one year of information technology related experience in the federal service or private or public sector demonstrating the following four competencies, as defined:
1. Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: Experience in conducting the inventory of Information Technology equipment and software in support of Information Technology projects and special support missions of the organization.
2. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency includes: Experience in conducting the inventory of Information Technology equipment and software in support of Information Technology projects and special support missions of the organization.
3. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: Experience in representing the Information Technology team in meetings and conferences with counterparts internal and external to the organization and briefing management on all Information Technology projects and requirements.
4. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. IT-related experience demonstrating this competency include: Experience in developing and maintaining technical policies and procedures and administering internal controls and quality assurance plans; developing network management and system administration guidelines, policies and procedures, writing comprehensive operating instructions and preparing training materials for operating personnel.
GS-12: In addition to the experience demonstrating the four competencies above, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-11) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector:
Experience with installation, configuration, maintenance and management of organizational Computer Systems, Local Area Networks, and Wide Area Networks; performing computer hardware and software maintenance, troubleshooting and resolving computer issues and outages.
Experience with development and maintenance of technical policies and procedures and administering internal controls and quality assurance plans; development of network management and system administration guidelines, policies and procedures, writing comprehensive operating instructions and preparing training materials for operating personnel.
Experience with supporting Information Technology projects; conducting project tasks and coordinating project efforts with all command field units in area of responsibility. Serve as technical representative in the areas of hardware, software, and communications technology for Information Technology projects.
Experience conducting the inventory of Information Technology equipment and software in support of Information Technology projects and special support missions of the organization.
Experience representing the Information Technology team in meetings and conferences with counterparts internal and external to the organization and briefing management on all Information Technology projects and requirements.
GS-11:
I have one year of information technology related experience in the federal service or private or public sector demonstrating the following four competencies, as defined:
