You will serve as an INDUSTRIAL HYGIENIST of NMRTU GROTON CT. THIS IS A DIRECT HIRE ANNOUNCEMENT. Section 1109 of the National Defense Authorization Act Fiscal Year 2020 Public Law 116-92 amended Section 9905 of title 5, United States Code (U.S.C.) to streamline and simplify certain Department of Defense civilian Direct Hire Authorities to recruit and appoint qualified candidates directly to certain positions in the competitive service in the Department of Defense.

Duties

You will perform industrial hygiene inspections, surveys and evaluations. You will evaluate the need for quantitative assessment for air contamination. You will recommend work with engineering, safety, and supervisory personnel to devise control measures such as change in work procedures. You will provide consultation and advised to activities on occupational health problems and concerns when requested.

Qualifications

GS-12 Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience planning and completing industrial hygiene programs. Experience evaluating complex occupational health hazards. Experience developing a variety of control measures to include: ventilation, shielding, material substitution, changes in work procedures, isolation, education, and personal protective devices. Experience recommending and evaluating new work processes to minimize health hazards. Experience investigating arising health concerns and determining probable cause within the workplace. Experience making statistical exposure assessments. Experience with entering industrial hygiene data into DOEHRS-IH and/or additional web-based applications. GS-11 Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Experience planning and completing industrial hygiene programs. Experience evaluating complex occupational health hazards. Experience developing a variety of control measures to include: ventilation, shielding, material substitution, changes in work procedures, isolation, education, and personal protective devices. Experience recommending and evaluating new work processes to minimize health hazards. Experience making statistical exposure assessments. Education

Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess.

• A bachelor's or graduate/higher level degree in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related science; or
• A bachelor's degree in a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene; or
• Certification from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene(external link) (ABIH).
