This position is part of the Office of Natural Resources Revenue (ONRR), Audit, Compliance & Outreach. You must be able to report to one of the advertised duty locations in order to be eligible for this job opportunity. Positions will be filled in one of the following locations:

Duties
Obtains audit evidence that is sufficient, competent, and relevant to provide a basis for audit findings and conclusions.
Gathers information for compliance reviews and performs analysis.
Prepares audit programs for the company being audited or reviewed by using different accounting approaches and procedures, consults with company personnel, and evaluates the internal controls to determine the reliability of royalty reporting.
Assesses and analyzes reference and ONRR system data to ensure reasonable compliance with mineral royalty and production reporting in accordance with current laws and regulations, and internal procedures and policies.
Initiates appropriate correspondence to industry requesting source data to resolve identified exceptions, and responds to industry requests for routing information and provides assistance in resolving routine exceptions.
Communicates verbally and in writing within the Department and ONRR, industry, Federal, State, and Tribal agencies.
Maintains Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credentials as required.
Qualifications

Eligibility Requirements:
In order to be eligible for the Pathways Internship Program, the following qualifications must be met:
-Be a U.S. citizen;
-Be at least 16 years of age;
-Be a student enrolled or accepted for enrollment as a degree or certificate seeking student taking at least a half-time academic, technical, or vocational course load in an accredited technical, vocational, 2 or 4 year college or university, graduate or professional school. The Certificate Program requirement includes post-secondary education, in a qualifying educational institution, equivalent to at least one academic year of full-time study that is part of an accredited college-level, technical, trade, vocational, or business school curriculum.
-Possess and maintain at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA or equivalent on a 4.0 scale.
-The following are preferred degree categories:
Accounting
Auditing
Business Administration with Auditing Concentration
Masters of Business Administration with Auditing Concentration
Masters of Auditing or Accountancy
(NOTE: The degree does not have to be related to the position/series to participate in the internship. However, to be eligible for a conversion, candidate must meet the OPM qualification standards for the position to which the Intern MAY be converted.)
Conversion to an Auditor, GS-0511 is contingent on meeting the basic education requirement. There are two ways to meet this basic requirement.
Completion or expected completion of all requirements for a bachelor's degree in: accounting, auditing; or a degree including auditing courses in a related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration that included or was supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting. The 24 hours may include up to 6 hours of credit in business law. OR
A combination of education and experience: at least 4 years of accounting experience or an equivalent combination of accounting experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional accounting knowledge AND 24 semester hours in accounting/auditing courses, which may include up to 6 semester hours of business law, OR a certificate as a Certified Public Accountant or Certified Internal Auditor.
*If you are currently enrolled, but in your last semester/quarter of completing your degree/certificate requirements, you must show proof of continued education such as an acceptance letter or you will be disqualified.
In order to be converted to a term or permanent position you will be required to complete 480 hours of employment.
Only experience and education obtained by the closing date of this announcement will be considered.
Only education from institutions which are accredited or pre-accredited/candidate for accreditation may be used to meet education requirements.
At the GS-07, you must meet one of the following qualifications:
A. One (1) full academic year of successfully completed graduate-level education (18 semester hours, 27 quarter hours or the equivalent).
OR
B. Bachelor's degree with Superior Academic Achievement.
Superior Academic Achievement (SAA): If you are claiming SAA, you must submit documentation by the closing date of the announcement showing that you have successfully completed all requirements for a bachelor's degree AND meet one of the following requirements:1. A grade point average of "B" (a GPA of 2.95 or higher out of a possible 4.0) for all completed undergraduate courses, or those completed in the last two years of undergraduate study.2. A grade-point average of "B+" (a GPA of 3.45 or higher out of a possible 4.0) for all courses in your major field of study, or those courses in your major completed in the last two years of undergraduate study.3. Rank in the upper one-third of your class in the college, university, or major subdivision.4. Membership in a national honor society (other than freshman honor societies) recognized by the association of College Honor Societies. Note: If more than 10 percent of your courses were taken on a pass/fail basis, your claim must be based on class standing or membership in an honorary society;
OR
C. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 level performing developmental assignments to advance applicable analytical and evaluative skills and techniques in a progressive capacity. This includes gathering and assembling documentation for use in audits; and/or examining financial documents, reports, and data for completeness and accuracy.
OR
D. A Combination of education and experience as listed above.
At the GS-09, you must meet one of the following qualifications:
A. Two (2) academic years of successfully completed graduate-level education (36 semester hours, 54 quarter hours or the equivalent) or a master's degree or equivalent graduate degree.
OR
B. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 level performing developmental assignments to advance applicable analytical and evaluative skills and techniques in a progressive capacity. This includes applying laws, regulations, policies, and auditing procedures to resolve basic problems relating to audit and compliance review work.
OR
C. A Combination of education and experience as listed above.
