About the Position: This position is located at Evans Army Community Hospital at Fort Carson, Colorado in the Patient Administration Division.

Duties
Analyze patient medical records to identify inaccurately coded services in accordance with federal coding regulations and guidelines.
Provide review and analysis of coding accuracy and compliance statistics, coordinating results with the Coding Manager and Patient Administration Department Head for feed back to the providers.
Prepare reports of findings and recommends staff education and training on accurate coding practices and compliance issues to maintain coding accuracy.
Provide monthly performance and progress reports addressing levels of accomplishment to Coding Manager and Patient Administration Department Head.
Maintain thorough understanding of anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, disease processes and surgical techniques through participation in continuing education programs.
Perform diagnosis and procedure coding through application of International Classification of Diseases, Clinical Modification (ICD-11-CM) current edition and Current Procedural Terminology (CPT) coding guidelines.
Develop programs and plans for training medical and ancillary services staff in basic coding techniques and requirements.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
- Position is designated as Inclement Weather Essential. The incumbent must make every attempt to report for work on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
- A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience and/or education requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Certified Outpatient Coding or Medical Coding Certification is highly desired but not required. Please upload the certification in casefile.
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience auditing coders and/or providers to identify inaccurately coded services in accordance with coding regulations; identify errors, trends, documentation concerns regarding diagnosis, CPT, E/M errors and convert that into training material; and monitoring coding performance to ensure continuous and lasting improvement.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).

Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Medical Records Administration, Health System Administration etc.

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages.
