About the Position: Serves as Supervisory of Outpatient Medical Records under the supervision of the Chief of Patient Administration. This position is located in the Patient Administration department at Evans Army Community Hospital, in Fort Carson, CO.

Duties

Establishes and maintains systems for release of information consistent within authorized consent/authorizations within the provisions of the Privacy Act, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), and other Federal regulations. Supervises medical records clerks and Red Cross volunteers carrying out medical record administration services. Reviews health record and outpatient treatment record files. Instructs personnel regarding regulations and procedures pertaining to the confidentiality and safeguarding of medical records. Performs quantitative analysis of health and outpatient treatment records. Performs qualitiative review as prescribed by published standards for specific procedures. Formulates and clarifies operating procedures, guidelines and written instrucctions. Establishes deadlines and priorities, revises work schedules and sequence of operations required. Provides on-the-job training to subordinate personnel in human relations.

  • This position is Inclement Weather Essential. This means that you must be willing to make every attempt to report for duty on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-08 grade level in the Federal service which includes 1) performing quantitative analyses of medical records to verify compliance of regulatory requirements; reviewing, auditing, and analyzing clinical medical records for compliance; 3) compile statistical data relating to medical records and/or release medical records; 4) storing, retrieving, maintaining, and retiring medical records. OR Education: master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Health Information Management or Healthcare Administration. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-08). You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Ability to lead or superviseAudit ReportingTechnical Competence Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-08).
