About the Position: Medical Records Technician Coding position located at Evans Army Community Hospital, Patient Administration Division, Outpatient Coding Section located in Fort Carson, Colorado Springs, CO.

Duties
Code disease and injury diagnose and/or medical procedures in accordance with established coding (MHS) coding guidelines.
Determine and validate appropriate Evaluation and Management (E/M) Code.
Review and analyze medical data for coding accuracy and correct coding as necessary.
Provide advice and documentation education to groups or individual providers.
Review content of diagnostic and procedural templates.
Perform quality improvement activities.
Utilize computerized data entry and retrieval systems to enter diagnoses and procedures.
Edit provider medical coding.
Clarify and/or correct discrepancies/deficiencies with medical records documentation.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This is an Inclement Weather Essential position; you must make every attempt to report for work on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions
- Certified Ambulatory Data Coder, credentialed through the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) or the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) certification is highly desired but not required.
- Immunization screening is required.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service which includes 1) demonstrated experience coding diseases, injuries, and/or medical procedures in accordance with established official coding guidelines; 2) performing audits of medical records determining coding accuracy; 3) proficient use of the ICD-10 official code set.
