About the Position: Incumbent serves as a senior Safety & Occupational Health (S&OH) Specialist for the Army Corps of Engineers, Sacramento District.
Duties
Inspects USACE-owned and operated facilities as well as public recreation areas to identify safety and health hazards.
Conducts construction safety inspections at a wide variety of diverse and complex military and/or civil works construction projects including marine work (dredging; stream bank protection); dam reconstruction etc.
Collaborates with design engineers, geologists, biologists, chemists, and other specialists in the development of project plans, designs, and specifications to ensure the safety of District employees, contractors, and the general public.
Reviews contractor and government near miss incidents and accident reports to ensure information is thorough, casual factors identified, and appropriate control measures recommended to prevent reoccurrence.
Develops and conducts training on various safety and occupational health topics.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Business Travel (TDY) of up to 45% required.
- Valid Driver's License required.
- This position requires the incumbent to obtain a Safety and Occupational Health CP/FC-12 Certificate.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized specialized experience related to safety and occupational health that provided the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, which includes experience with Construction Safety and Occupational Health; reviewing contractor's safety program proposals to ensure conformance with safety standards, procedures and codes, recommending changes and modifications as required; making on-site safety surveys of resident office programs to determine prescribed safety procedures and standards are being applied as well as advising on various problems which might arise in the area of safety with project and contract personnel; surveying that includes unique problems requiring solutions based on the application of professional safety and health skills, practices, and principles in making recommendations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).
