The Law Enforcement Training Center provides professional law enforcement training to all units within the National Park Service (NPS). Our work is focused on contemporary law enforcement training with leadership, advocacy, expertise and vision. We are seeking an experienced, dynamic & energetic individual to serve as a Training Specialist who will provide a variety of training administrative and technical support services essential to the operation of law enforcement training programs.

Duties

Provide administrative support for NPS Law Enforcement training programs Develop technical training and administrative data products for instructors and program managers Assist with the development and use of diverse administrative methods in various training settings to determine level of accomplishments and degree of acquired skills/abilities Maintain liaison with participating agency personnel regarding course assessment and training procedures Work with training program managers to coordinate curriculum revisions based on evaluation data, content updates, and recommendations for program stakeholders and subject-matter-experts Maintain knowledge of best practices for adult learning, new learning technologies, and instructional techniques Support training programs by providing administrative and technical training products, coordinating training venues and logistics, guest speakers, and procuring contracted instructors

Requirements

  • You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
  • Occasional overtime may be required.
  • You must be a U.S. citizen or national.
  • Appointment subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
  • May be subject to a one-year probationary period.
  • All requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
  • Status candidates must meet-time-in-grade requirements.
  • You will be required to participate in the Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program.
  • Occasional overtime may be required.
  • A valid state driver's license is required.

Qualifications

In order to be qualified at the GS-11 level, you must possess one of the following: A PhD or three years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in education or a subject area related to the position to be filled, such as law enforcement, security studies, or another closely related field; or possess an LLM. - OR - One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 in the Federal service, creating new training course materials to ensure their alignment with standards or guidelines; researching new methods, technologies, or policies which can improve existing training programs; tracking work completed by a team to ensure it is completed on deadline; and reviewing training program accreditation documentation to ensure it is complete and correct. - OR - A combination of graduate level education as described in A and specialized experience as described in B that, when combined, equals 100% of the total requirement. (Please note: only graduate education in excess of the two years - normally 36 semester hours - may be used in this calculation.) For current Federal employees, if hours worked per week are not included on your resume, you must submit a non-award SF-50 as part of your application to be used to validate your work schedule and determine the amount of specialized experience that you will be granted. An award SF-50 will not be acceptable documentation for which to consider your amount of qualifying experience. For all other applicants who are not current federal employees, your resume must state either "full-time" (or "40 hours a week") or "part-time" with the number of hours worked per week to ensure proper crediting of specialized experience. For periods of time that reflect military service, the DD-214 or Statement of Service is sufficient to meet the full and/or part-time hours requirement as the service dates will be reflected.
