Duties
Provides patient screening to adult workers ages 18-80.
Obtains and reviews medical and occupational history.
Performs various screenings, such as vision, vital signs, spirometry, audiometry, and electrocardiograms (EKGs) and reviews results for completeness and accuracy.
Counsels patients regarding test results, health promotion topics and workplace health hazards.
Provides administrative support such as: Patient scheduling, coordination of pre-placement exams, ordering and receiving supplies and equipment, documenting patient encounter information and entering appropriate codes into the health record.
Reviews all pertinent data and determines requirements for ancillary testing and program placement.
Refers abnormal vital signs, vision screenings, EKGs, audiometry and spirometry results to an Occupational Health Nurse (OHN) or provider for evaluation.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
- Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315.
- This position has a mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirement and is subject to annual vaccination.
- This position is subject to screening and update of required immunizations unless exempted for medical or administrative reasons. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact.
- This position requires the completion of an Occupational Health pre-employment Physical Examination.
- This position has been designated "Mission Essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- This position requires Basic Life Support training certification from, or in accordance with, the American Heart Association and American Red Cross.
- A valid state driver's license may be required to operate a motor vehicle when traveling to work sites to observe work operations.
- Incumbent is required to have successfully completed a NIOSH approved course in Spirometry and receive a certificate of completion.
- This position has a requirement to lift up to 25lbs. in the regular performance of duties.
- This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: (1) providing patient screening to adults and; (2) conducting occupational health tests such as audiograms, spirometry, vision screening, or electrocardiograms and; (3) operating an automated system to input or retrieve medical information. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).
Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
