You will serve as an Engineering Technician (Naval Architect) in the Engineering and Planning Department (Code 400) of TRIDENT REFIT FACILITY, BANGOR.
This announcement is for an Upward Mobility Program position.
Pay Retention will be extended to eligible Federal Government employees selected for this formal employee development program.
Duties
You will research information, analyze and evaluate deficiencies, and assist with determining the approach to resolve deficiencies including immediate and long-term corrective actions.
You will develop and recommend changes and coordinate implementation of resolutions.
You will manage, research, and define test requirements and specifications (including drawings and sketches), evaluate and analyze data, and provide technical engineering reports.
You will review proposed design modifications to existing TRIDENT (and other) ship systems and equipment with a view toward alleviating potential problems by influencing the hardware design.

- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and nonionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

The entry level for this position is GS-09/GS-10 with a full performance level of GS-12.
Knowledge of employees selected may vary and will require the development of an individually tailored training plan to assist them in qualifying for the full performance level of this position. Eligibility requires that the employee be performing satisfactorily, complete all training requirements, acquire the requisite qualifications and have met time-in-grade eligibility for career ladder promotions.
This recruitment is open to current UIC 68438 employees with experience at or equivalent to the:
GS-10:
GS-10 or WG-11(or higher) equivalent level experience demonstrating the ability to inspect and/or repair structural components and/or preservation systems (e.g., shipfitting, welding, metalworking, painting, and associated structural trades).
GS-09:
GS-09 or WG-10 (or higher) equivalent level experience demonstrating the ability to inspect and/or repair structural components and/or preservation systems (e.g., shipfitting, welding, metalworking, painting, and associated structural trades).
Employee Participation Requirements:
